Why were they bad play calls? Better yet, why was the first down pass an acceptable call?

Just proves what I've said all along, Les Miles is the sorriest, yet luckiest coaches on earth. It's a miracle he has a championship to his name.

Agree 100%.
Les Miles is a game-clock moron!!!....... Failure to be a coach!!!

Miles is a few cards short of a full deck, so this shouldn't surprise.
The commentators kept lauding his young, talented OL all night, but yet Miles "outsmarted" himself by passing to get get 2 yards with 2 downs.
Brilliant!!

Have to admit...
Was rooting for the SEC...Damn LSU!!!
Should've won anyway...Miles is an idiot for throwing the ball on the last drive.
Coach Boom? Neva....

SEC 2nd...

No way to lose
LSU should have won, maybe even blown out Clemson, period!
Clemson has the flash and lost their best player the first series, yet still had enough to beat LSU who apparently thought their talent, depth and toughness would overwhelm the C Tigers.
The SEC vs ACC is not fair but Miles continues to underachieve when this game was served up to the mighty Bengals like eye candy.
I kept watching Mettenberger get sacked and thought LSU's OL was getting mauled throughout the game. Where's the talent and depth we've heard so much about?
The SEC is a line of scrimmage conference, but LSU got their over confident butts whipped tonight!

Playcalling should have been moot - if Mettenberger actually threw that 2nd and 2 roll out anything like even an average college QB should - a to a wide open receiver - the game would have effectively been over. Would have been a fresh set of downs inside the opposition 45 with the clock running and less than 1.50 to play, needing Clemson to burn all their time outs...
I actually quite liked that specific call. Less impressed by the pass play on 3rd/2 It was the execution that cost them their best shot though!

Miles and miles
Les looks like he's on sabbatical and hip shoots most games I've seen him loll about the sidelines. Does he call any plays or just act like he does?
I realize coaching personalities differ greatly, but he seems so casual even in defeat. We seem to get the most out of Muschamp with his emotions and focus, and I would say Coach Boom is better for the college game and keeps our players psyched.
Bama seemed more focused and ready for LSU last year and so did Clemson last night. Could Miles be projecting an overconfident and even cavalier attitude toward the opponents that translates to his players?

For 2013, I hope we as a country can begin to understand the difference in meaning and spelling of the words 'lose' and 'loose'.

Clemson "sucks" and yet accomplished something only Florida and Alabama did: beat LSU. And beat them the way Bama did, at the last seconds.

My concern is this is going to make Robinson think that Clemson is a better choice than us because of Miles blowing the game.

Miles screwed up LSU's last possession but Clemson deserved to win as they outplayed LSU. The stats were lopsided in favor of Clemson.

This is what sucks about bowl games. You never know if a team is going to even care to play in the meaningless game or not.

LSU lost, ending up in the losing column, going home losers, because their way too loose game plan set them up to lose.
Who would have thought a Les Miles team would have trouble understanding the need to run the football some to protect your defense? I lost count but it seemed as if Clemson was going to get to run 120 plays.
The passing game of the Tigers from LSU was pitiful. That QB must have gotten ahold of the stick-em for the wide receivers because he seemed to not be able to actually get rid of the ball, again and again, as het got pummeled. Run the damn ball, get a few first downs, and give those backs a chance to break a few more. They did it when you gave them the chance.
On another note, I thought LSU's defense put forth a valiant effort. Clemson deserves credit for a valiant effort, in particular their QB. Until LSU was totally gassed at the end of the game they had excellent coverage most of the night. That QB simply thread the needle over and over again and continually picked up tough yards. If he can throw like that on a consistent basis--especially when being harassed by defenders--he will have an excellent NFL career. The scouts are drooling over his performance last night.

We can only hope that we see a QB and WR performance like the one displayed by Clemson last night inthe near future performed by the Gators. Entertaining game with lots of pressure plays. It went to the end and Clemson outplayed Lsu. I though with Vanderbelt being crowned the new ACC champs that Lsu would blow past them with there ground game.

Easy, plays that work are good play calls and plays that don't are bad play calls. Every armchair quarterback knows that.
