Parker signs with Duke. Screw Murphy and Jefferson..
Alex Murphy and Amile Jefferson got a combined 15 minutes aginst ELON. Now the Dukies are saying Parker will start at the 3 (Rodney Hood will be at the 4) next year. They wont get any playing time if Dawkins comes back and they occasionally run a three guard offense.
Congrats to the families of the redshirt Murphy and Jefferson for buying into K's propaganda abou being "the man".
Time to transfer gentlemen.

Propaganda? You mean what ever coach tells every recruit? If Murphy and Jefferson aren't the best players on the team and Parker is then he will play. Coach K would be doing a disservice to the rest of the team if he didn't field what he thought was the most successful team.

The only difference is coach k has a history of promising not to recruit behind certain kids and doing so. He also has a history of saying he won't and then doing it.

I always got the impression when AROB was recruited, he was promised playing time over Brett Nelson.
And even though AROB was a more gifted athlete, Nelson was a better fit for the team. Unfortunately, Nelson rode the pine.

If a coach recruits a kid who he promises he won't overrecruit and ends up doing it anyway he's selfish. Why even do that? I guess so you can secure yourself an insurance policy. If you guys are right about K doing that, its messed up, and yet another thing he doesn't catch flak for that other coaches would.

Is Billy overrecruiting with Randle replacing Finny-Smith and Walker coming in?

It all depends what he told them. From what I hear billy doesn't go there with recruits where as coach k is kind of notorious for it.

Well:
1. I agree for sure Alec Murphy is in a bad spot at Duke. I wonder if UF would be interested in him?
2. When Nelson was recruited there was an article about it in the now defunct Sport magazine. In the article it was said that Donovan promised him not to recruit a another PG for a class or two. Donovan kept that promise. Nelson was in the class of 1999. Roberson was in the class of 2002. That is the best a coach can do by a player.
3. I do not know why anyone would just assume that Parker will automatically be better than Jefferson. Jefferson was pretty highly recruited, 21 RSCI, and will have a year playing against college players over Parker.
4. Donovan's ideal rotation seems to be about 9 players. I view it as he wants 4 bigs and 5 perimeter players. This year he has 8 composed of 3 bigs and 5 perimeter players. From this group UF figures to lose 1, maybe 2, bigs and 2 perimeter players. That means to get to Donovan;s ideal of 4 bigs, he needs 3 if Young leaves and has two, Harris and C.Walker, inked already. UF also loses two perimeter players but is ok there with adding two in Finney-Smith and Hill. So the way I see it is that UF has minutes for Randle without breaking any promise to Harris or C.Walker or Yeguete.

This thread appears a bit rumorish.
Everything said may well be accurate, and it certainly does appear that Murphy and Jefferson may have made incorrect choices, but I wasn't very high on Murphy anyway, sort of thought he would be similar to his brother, take some time to have an impact, and there certainly is nothing wrong with that, but I really didn't see the same upside for him that I saw for his brother when he was being recruited.
One thing that no coach knows is how well any given player will turn out when they arrive on campus. Even for the #1 ranked kids, it is still somewhat iffy regarding how much, if any impact they will have. So, it seems to me that if you can, you should recruit backups for the kids you have already in the fold.

I agree with your statement. The problem arises when coach k says that and then does the opposite.
It is also much harder now with all the 1 yr players if you make that promise to not recruit behind them and they leave you have a hole.
The other problem is what I call the paulus problem. You make the promise but the player just stinks and then you are stuck with a crappy player who used to be highly regarded with no one to take his spot.

Hate to be picky, but Parker hasn't signed with anyone.

I am with you. Certainly Duke is well in the lead for his signature, but a number of players do not ultimately sign with the first team they commit to. If the rumors that he favored UF and his parents favored Duke are true, the quote from his coach after Izzo visited the last time made me think the coach favored Michigan State.

If I remember correctly, Alex reclassed a year early, right?
I wonder if, in retrospect, he regrets both reclassing and going to Duke. Maybe not, but I think it is a big testament to both Billy and his brother that Erik has matured and is playing the best ball of his career.

Coach K-aka as the rat gets away with anything he does. Never forget the year he had a really bad team and developed a bad back so his assistant would take the fallout.

Seems like it went from a bad decision to horrible one with Parker heading to duke.

At the time he made his college choice, his older brother wasn't doing very well, if I remember correctly. I also remember dad wanting Erik to transfer at around that time too.
Good for both Erik and UF that it worked out here.
