Any idea what the rules are on eligibility? I remember that Jonathan Mitchell played from 8th grade through 12th grade at Mt. Vernon Academy in New York, which is what allowed him to become that school's all-time leading scorer. What I find surprising with the 5th grader is that there is not a minimum age requirement to play high school basketball in Florida. There was such a requirement in New York when I was growing up.

Kid has no business playing high school ball. If he is getting any minutes then his H. S. team sucks. If you have seen him on video and if you have seen 5th grade AAU ball you would realize he is not some miracle 5th grader more of a good 5th grade player. Things like this suck for the sport. The dad has been putting this kid on you tube since he was 9 and my guess is him playing high school ball is all about publicity.

I love that the kid has busted his butt to be a good ball handler and I hope he stays as engaged in basketball as he seems to be now. Let's check back with him when he reaches high school.

There aren't any eligibility rules at little private schools. Kelvin Taylor played from 8th grade to 12th grade for his varsity. The kid isn't using up any eligibility.

And how bad must the competition be? The kid is a nice 5th grade player, but apparently this school isn't even big enough to be in FHSAA--probably has a male HS population of 4 or 5.

Pure stupidity and putting his own kids health at risk. Even a normal strength foul could result in serious injury.
