The SEC is sending a strong message...if you are gonna target a defenseless player above the shoulders, you better make damn sure you don't play for Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, or Kentucky.
Thats pretty weak to take a cheap shot on a defenseless QB. Jmo. I love big hits, but to unload on a QB thats not even looking at you, nor does he have the ball.... Meh. Where do you draw the line on "defenseless"? I guess that the question here.
Morrison's hit was at least while EJ had the ball. And it was a little lower. Also, it was while EJ was twisting and turning, so there's not much Morrison could do. In contrast, the bama player saw an opportunity to flatten a small, defenseless QB that didn't even have the ball. I think his intent was to probably take him out of the game.
That being said, murry should know better then that. Throw a pick, your head should be on a swivel.

There was also little to no helmet contact from Morrison to Manuel. The best I could see from a frame my frame was a ever so brief and light tap after most of Morrison's energy had been displaced to Manuel.
Aaron Murray on the other hand had a face full of helmet, at the moment of impact. A matter of fact, it looks like the helmet was the first thing to make contact.

The guy targeted his pads and above. If anyone thinks that's clean in today's rules I would love to hear reaction if driskell had taken a shot like that.
Also keep in mind how deliberately high he went considering murray was jogging upright. A little different than someone squatting low or cutting while making a move.

Dirty hit but its bama so no.
What's the over/under for holding calls on Bama against media darling Notre Dame?

Tell me about it. I will always remember two hands to the back of our defender right in front of the play on the Ingram screen for a TD before halftime of the sec championship game.
They get away with murder
Dial's above-the-shoulder, helmet-to-helmet hit on Murray took place away from the play on an interception return, leaving the junior quarterback hurt on the turf, though no flag was thrown on the play.
When you watch the full video, he is about five yards from the returner, moving towards the returner. If the returner isn't tackled, his path and the path of the returner intersect. That seems different from being away from the play. If he is just standing there, or moving in the other direction, that would be different.

Hate to say it, but in slo-mo / stop (at 4 sec) he led as much with his pads as Morrison did on his hit on Manual.
Yes, his helmet made almost simultaneous contact, and it was almost under the chin. Close play, bang bang, no flag. I can see it going either way, actually.
Dang defense lawyers. Sorry. Couldn't resist. You know I kid. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Soooo many missed calls on 'Bama in that game. This is a major factor in the NC game. Who are the refs?
Totally disagree that Morrison's and Dial's hit were the same.
Morrison led with his shoulder, tilting his head away. Dial Lowered his head and led with his head.
Also, the circumstances were different. Dial had the time and ability to square up on a "defenseless player". I know by rule Murray wasn't defenseless. But he wasn't paying attention, and was barely even jogging, making an easy target, and he could have easily made a clean block below the head, not leading with his helmet.
In Morrison's tackle, he tilted his head to the side, but even had he made real helmet to helmet contact, Manuel was twisting, and was fully aware that 11 people were looking to hit him. Had he made helmet to helmet contact, it would have been easier to argue that it was incidental. In Dial's hit, it looks as blatant as it gets.
note: the best shot of the Morrison hit is at the 57 second mark. play frame by frame, and you'll be hard pressed to NOT find a gap between the two helmets. If they touch, it's an extremely quick love tap.

If I had been the ref standing right in front of the play....I would have flagged for unnecessary roughness without any hesitation, and then immediately thrown Alabama out of the SEC.
I believe it was after the pick, so it was legal to hit Murray. Every defender is looking for a shot on the QB after a turnover.
But obviously helmet to helmet.
Can't risk BAMA being short on D against Notre Dame.
It's sort of ironic though, that after watching UGA late-hit and cheap-shot our QB's for about the last four years, there's a fuss over one of their QB's getting hit?
Color me unimpressed. UGA has become the cheap-shotting FSU of the SEC, and Karma has a wicked sense of humor IMO.

the story mentioned a UGA player eye gouging?! First I've heard of it ... how come the media isn't all over this one like they were with Spike's retaliation jab? Does anyone have video clip of this?
And Bama player gets called for responding with a shove lol.
Sorry but how can this kid say this was an accident?

EXACTLY!! He is not defenseless he is at that point a defender and he got cleaned up. Dial led with his helmet but Murray wasn't defenseless his eyes were focused on the player he just threw the pick to. Poor situational awareness on Murray's part, illegal hit by Dial but definitely bang bang.
