So we've gotten Tyler Moore since I posted this. Trenton Brown now seems to be a matter of when he will commit not if. And David Dawson has decommitted from michigan and named the GATORS his leader. Things are sure looking up. If we can close with Brown and Dawson then this would be the perfect OL class. That would give us 4 players that could provide depth next year and be battling for starting roles in their second year. Color me excited. :-)

Exacto Mundo!
Everything starts and ends with those on the line.
Florida can recruit top quality skill positions all day long...
All day... (need a few more top shelf receivers, though...)
But getting top quality linemen... is the very essence... the very key to our program being successful!
In spite of losing Theus last year and perhaps Tunsil...this year....
Florida is doing very, very well with its offensive line recruiting.

Only thing that concerns me is our OT depth. Someone could probably assuage my concerns on that but it seems like we need another HS OT.

Risktaker you're not a "trust the coaches fan" what does that make you? The number od stars means little when evaluating players. The level of competition, stats, watching potential recruits in a game, academics, character and sense of team work are some of the factors coaches use to evaluate recruits. This years recruiting class is ranked number three with a few scholarships yet to award. What do you use to make you think a recruit is worthwhile?

My impression is most of the time stars come from evaluations by the services who have some of those factors in mind, but that services also look to coach's evaluations in the form of offers to decide a player's value and specific rank. Services don't have the time to evaluate attitude, character, teamwork so most of the time it is on ability plus different program's interest in a player to set their position rank. But I would say most of the time stars reflect mostly on perceived talent and ability at the next level, the rest is up to staffs to decide.

Since I last posted on this thread, the Gators have continued to prove their mettle on the field and that should continue turning recruits heads in our direction.
This is good. I am confident we will bolster our lines the right way and we might even be cherry picking by February of 2013!!!

Tend to agree. If I were an OL on the fence I would think I want to learn how to be tough and dominant if my ambition and expectation was to play at the next level.

How so? We need perhaps two more OL and as far as I can tell we have a couple OGs close to committing, though we probably only take one, and likely(hopefully?) Trent Brown at OT. If a David Dawson and T Brown commit who else could we, or would we, take?

That's what I meant Die,
We get to pick the cherries we like because we have a full class by NSD.
It's a good thing.

OT next year
Green- will start
Moore- Good chance to start
Hump- If not a starter first off the bench
Kohne- Can play both OG and OT
Garcia- unless he moves to OG
Thurman- Might be a surprise for us also can move inside
Brown- Big Man, very big
We will be fine at OT next year

So we now have Garcia, Dillard, Jackson, Moore and Brown committed with all looking very solid. Garcia, Moore and Brown should be in the rotation from day one. We're still pursuing Rod Johnson, although that could change with Browns commitment. We also have the redshirt freshmen from last years class that will be available. The OL position sure has been upgraded in a big way. :-)

It's okay if you don't. My response was to the entire offensive line...... Didn't notice the guard part.

We are probably done recruiting OL this year, with a hall of six. Going to be a good battle to see who starts next year.

Post #49 is about Offensive Tackles
Halapio is a Offensive Guard
...but it looks like Rod Johnson can be added to the list.
Johnson is gonna be a solid lineman for us.
My guess is that Garcia & Kohene are guards.
Moore will battle Humphries & Brown
Thurman & Johnson will #3 OTs.

What is the status of Tommy Jordon and Trip Thurman?
I know these are guys that Meyer brought in but how are they progressing?
Both of them seem to have good size, especially Trip.
Any thoughts?

Unless you are willing or able to personally evaluate each and every recruit, how can you not trust our coaches. IMO, our coaches are far more qualified to evaluate incoming talent than a recruiting reporter. I may be in the minority, but I think it is prudent when weighing or forming an opinion on our incoming class, to give more weight to our coaches and less weight to the recruiting services.

Tyrone Crowder is 6ft tall OG. Fans would be going crazy if he committed to us since he is ranked a top 5 OG prospect in the country. He actually tried to commit to the staff on a junior day, but the staff said no after meeting him in person and seeing how short he was. I will trust a staff who gets paid over 5 mil a year to evaluate talent over some recruiting service.
