Clemson just can not make enough shots to beat good teams. They have gone very cold and trail by 6 now with Zona going to the line.
Dykes is the commentator who said that and he is a UAR guy from KY so he is an SEC guy.

Glad they won. Two unbeaten teams, both of which are highly ranked, should make for a good game for TV.

Dykes just said that he believes the Gators being ranked at #6 is not high enough. He said teams that have big men like Patrick Young (he mention some other teams a s well) are going to win their league and make some deep runs in the NCAAs.

If both Arizona and Florida bring A games next week, it will be a fantastic game. I think Florida would win it. The Gators are just a step above. But if Florida if off just a little, let's just say McKale can be a tough place for visitors to win.

Jimmy Dykes' eval of the AZ team going forward:
Quote:
they are a a legitimate top-ten team, they have three or four future pros, the're two deep at every position, they defend they're tail off, and they are a very potent offensive team. They did a good job of hanging in a fist fight.
Solom Jill really struggled with his scoring, yet they were able to overcome that.

The continued progression of Mark Lyons at the PG spot and Zeus inside will determine if this team will make it or not make it to Atlanta for the Final Four.

I feel pretty confident that Wilbekin and Boynton can not only limit him, but can shut him down.

I like that Arizona team. Mentally tough, physical and swarming defensively, aggressive going to the hoop, balanced offensively, very competitive. They opened on a 22-8 run and closed on a 22-7 run. Hard to tell how good they are given the competition. Clemson is solid defensively, but terrible offensively. They are sloppy with the ball, miss easy shots, and take too many contested jumpers for a poor shooting team. Still, going across the country into someone else's arena and opening and closing the way Arizona did is impressive.
Their bigs are physical, but not terribly skilled. Young will have a hard time scoring over them and they will hurt us with offensive rebounds against our zone. Their guards are skilled, but very careless with the ball. We will force some turnovers against them and get some easy buckets. They are a better shooting team than they showed tonight, so we have to take away good looks from the arc. If we can narrow the rebound gap, defend the arc, and avoid too many turnovers ourselves, we should be in good shape.

One thing that helps is he isn't a pure PG and seems like he might be a little careless at time. Scottie and KB will be fine if we play man and with the way they seem to want to jack it up from 3 at times, I really think our zone may just be very effective.
Can't wait to see if we continue to step up and play great team ball.

Jimmy Dykes believes that next weeks UF-UA game will be one of the better non-conference games this year. Well, duh.

Florida is outstanding and Eric Murphy is the best four-man in college ball, right now, in terms of his pick-and-pop ability his ability to score at the rim. What Murphy is doing right now--he is a pro for Billy Donovan's team.

Oh, please. The guy isn't that good. He is very quick off the bounce and explosive in the open court and I love how hard he competes, but our guards match up very well with their size and athleticism. Plus, Miller is making him do a ton for that team offensively and against a better defensive team likes ours that can force you out of your game, which for him is slashing to the rim and creating off the bounce. We will bait him into taking threes against our zone and speeding up against the press.
What I find interesting is that Lyons played against us twice at Xavier. His lines were pretty bad both times.
2010: 2 points (1-5 shooting), 4 boards, 3 assists, 2 turnovers in 26 minutes (Xavier win)
2011: 2 points (1-11 shooting), 2 boards, 2 assists, 2 turnovers, fouled out in 32 minutes (Florida win).

My overall observations:
1. Zona had Clemson come back on them on the road trailed by 6 in the second half and did not fold. That speaks well for their toughness.
2. I am not very concerned with Lyons at all. Now any player on any other team can get hot and light you up for any given game, but he did not impress me much tonight.
3. It was an odd game. Some might call it a good defensive game, but both teams were able to drive it to the rim and blow layups time after time. Clemson particularly did this. At times Zona got 3 happy for now apparent reason even though they seemingly could have gone inside.

there are some really, really good teams out there right now and Arizona is one of them. Trust me. They took a couple of body blows from this tough Clemson team, and they answered the bell in the second-half to close it out for their win.

you're forgetting how i operate: beware the next opponent. inflate them even. those threads helped propel the gators to the elite eight last year and makes the win that much more meaningful and sweet.

One of the programs that has disrupted Arizona's Pac 12 reign over the past 6 or 7 years has been Washington, who, to me, Florida resembles. Both are aggressive teams with a lot of athleticism who go right after teams from the get go. If Florida brings there A game Arizona's instinct will be to depend on the three. The only thing worse for Arizona is the Zone defense. Clemson really stiffled Arizona during stretches where Clemson committed to the Zone.

This will be a good test as you can bank on one of our front court players getting into foul trouble on the road in this game. It will be interesting to see how we handle the foul trouble in this game. I'm guessing it will be Young or WY...Prather will have to play big inside.
