The only service academy ND played this year is Navy...and they've had that series going since WWII. (if you don't know the story, look it up--Navy's the one who technically controls the series)

Pretty ridiculous to say the Irish had a patsy schedule this year too. You don't have to like them by any means, but trolling with ridiculous comments like that make you look pretty silly. ND played and beat Stanford and Oklahoma this year. Outside of the SEC teams, ND easily has the best resume of the other teams in the NC hunt since they're the only ones who've played and beat two top 12 teams.

Oregon can't say that, KState can't say that, f$u can't say that, etc.

They played no directional or FCS schools. Before the year started people thought Mich State and Mich would be good. They planned a good schedule. In fact some on GC were relishing the thought that Mich would send UM back to the hospital. Not ND's fault those teams were down, just like not Alabama's fault Tenn is down.

I've had the privilege of hating notre dame for 45 years. That's a lot of hate. I don't like the fake black and white movie. Wish the gipper had lived a long wonderful life. Every day I hope to find NBC has sold notre dame to Disney who will make them wear Mousecateer uniforms and wear pink Minnie Mouse pajamas, with feet, to bed every night.

Here's another reason we've hated on ND. Being consistently overrated. An article from 2011:

Florida State is the new Notre Dame. And no, that's not a compliment.

For years, sports writers have falsely forecasted Notre Dame's return to football glory, giving the Fighting Irish preseason hype that they ultimately don't live up to. The true national champion of this phenomenon, though, is Florida State.

Since 2001, the Seminoles have been overrated more than any other major program based on the change between how many votes they get in the preseason Associated Press poll and the final one (including this season). Over this span, the Seminoles have finished with 60.4% fewer points in the poll than they began with. That's the largest decline of any team with at least five preseason-poll appearances over this span.

California has the second-biggest drop-off (-47.7%), which is owed to the Golden Bears' repeated failures in the mid-2000s.

Tennessee (-40.1%) and Nebraska (-33.0%) are next-worst. Notre Dame is "only" at -30.5%. The Irish have finished each of the past five seasons with fewer poll points than they started, but they haven't been getting many votes to begin with lately.

ND set a record bowl game losing streak because they were so consistently overrated that they were overmatched by their opponents.

In the BCS standings, we are second only to SEC champ Alabama among all 1 loss teams. Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina are second only to Stanford (Pac 12 champ) among 2 loss teams.

This kind of poll respect for the SEC has been built over these many years of MNC's and general OOC play. No one should wish for the streak to end, because it will diminish the respect in the polls.

Their schedule was okay. Not as bad as everyone says. Stanford got screwed in that game so we have no idea what would have happened. Oklahoma is way over-rated. They played only 2 good teams and they lost both of them. They beat up on a bunch of decent teams that play no defense.

Did I mention how much I can't stand Notre Dame?

Obviously their 12-0 run was aided by the fact that several of their marquee opponents (USC, Michigan State and to a lesser extent Michigan) had subpar seasons but that's not Notre Dame's fault. And they did get a few favorable calls along the way...but so did Alabama.

Because the continuing Alabama dynasty will mean they are always higher ranked than probably deserved and will always have less to prove.

My son texted me last week asking why everyone hates Notre Dame. I responded because they are a truly national team. They have fans everywhere and recruit everywhere, and so people everywhere hate them. ND has been irrelevant throughout his years of football consciousness. So he did some research. He came across this very interesting blog:

There is something kind of quaint about the fact that people still feel the need to pile on Notre Dame, even though an entire generation grew up with no real idea of why people hate the Irish so much; and there is something intriguing about this continued referendum on the SEC, and how a whole region of the country seems to take its conference identity so personally.

I realized he hit on something: "Continued referendum" on the SEC. Many on GC seem to have their regional identity invested in the SEC always winning the NC. Every year, without fail. Even if it means a Florida rival becomes stronger. Some on GC seem to live in fear that people outside the SEC might actually think they themselves play football.

My manhood is not resting on Alabama continuing the SEC streak. If people stop respecting the SEC after winning 6 in a row, then there is really no respect there anyway.

Frankly, this may be one of the last times we see something like it for a while. It feels like the end of an era, even as it's happening.
