Gators #6, UK out of Top 25
#6 in both AP and Coaches poll. Kentucky is out of the AP poll but still managed to stay at #19 in the Coaches Poll.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask.../poll/1/week/5
Its also worth noting that UF is the only team in the Top 25 in the AP poll and only UF/UK are in the Coaches poll out of the SEC.
Edit: I lied, forgot Mizzu is in the SEC now... lol

I like where we are. A lot to prove yet so keep the player's egos in check. UK will improve with expereince but they currently look like their potential will not exceed top ten by year's end.
A lesson to be learned. Experience counts most of the time....alot!

Certainly not surprising.
I mean, look at the SEC's performance against the Big East. Even South Florida beat Georgia.
Of course, Tennessee will improve when they become healthy (in other words when the Gators visit).

UK will be back. There is too much talent and they have a "brand" name. Cal will have his work cut out for him as a coach, though. Without a star PG it is really hard to employ a dribble drive offense. We will find out how good he is as a coach soon enough. (I suspect he is pretty good and will find a way to make his pieces work.)
Ole Miss has been a surprise to me. They are playing really well.
Bama is solid and should be borderline Top 25. The play very good D as one would expect playing for AG.
Mizzou is over-rated and living some off of last year's team rep. And they have other problems. That is one SEC team that I would sell if I had stock in them.
And Florida is still under-rated.

This edition of players are not last year's cats. Anthony Davis is definitely GONE. He was a freakishly advanced player for his age and I'm not seeing anything like him. Plus they have no older guys like last year which is clearly making a difference.
They are bound to improve but this group is a cut below last years.

Still early. By end of year, when we visit rupp, UK will be elite 8/final 4 team.

so, right now, we're a solid #2 seed...not to forecast too far ahead in bracketology, but that's what i'm doing right here and now
we'd be paired w/ Michigan - as the 1 seed
cincy would be the 3 seed in our end of the bracket
w/ minnesota as the 4-seed in the upper half of the bracket.
as the 2-seed, which 'pod' would we be in? where are the regionals being held; who's hosting the opening rounds? anything in florida?
we'd have notre dame (who took down UK) as the 6th seed. Mich state would get the 5-seed.

UK's plunge in the polls is historic:

Kentucky, a week after sliding from No. 3 to No. 8, fell completely out of The Associated Press' college basketball poll Monday, becoming the biggest single-week drop from the rankings since they were expanded to 25 teams in 1990.

Still I agree, UK will be better. This is really some of the problem of rating Calipari programs, are you rating a team today or as you think they will be in March?

After UK's title last year, they were too quick to anoint Cal's recent (freshmen heavy) approach as being perfectly sustainable season after season. Not saying everyone did, but enough apparently bought into the hype to way overrate this years team.
Before last year, the common belief was that you can't win a title relying on freshmen. I think too many think now that Cal can do it practically every year at UK. Neither misconception is true. Some of this is because many voters seem to think all top recruiting classes are the same. Many of you have pointed out the differences between this class and last years. I don't see a Davis or an MKG - let alone a point guard. The latter is what I consider the biggest problem. Knight and Wall bailed UK out of many games single handedly. Teague was a step down after them - but 5 steps up from anyone we've got now.
I buy into the importance of experienced players to a degree, but I still side with talent more. Last years team still wins a title (or has a shot) if you replace Jones Miller and Lamb with the Harrison twins and Andrew Wiggins - granted thats a class that will probably never exist.

Kentucky is down this year, they'll be lucky to get an invite to the tournament... Florida will beat them twice this year I really believe it, I think Florida is one of the most complete teams... Fundamentally sound as any other team from offense to defense, can anyone imagine what the additions of walker/hill will be like next year with what they have...

Funny thread on a UK b-ball forum in which two fans are trying to convince the rest of the posters that the media is biased against Kentucky (despite having them ranked so high to begin the year).

BTW with a team that young and talented, it is far too early to make any judgments about March.

Patric is up in the air from what I'm reading will not know until later, and boyton is all but gone after this year.... Would be nice to keep them all another year but I trust what Florida will have coming back along with will yguette... Defense possibly not as good but offense as good as anyone's....
