gators shooting 30%, defense is packing the paint and doubling george, daring some other gator to make the shot. today we were missing 'em.
Mich shooting 43%

I love Amanda as coach but the one thing that still baffles me is why Jaterra gets as many minutes as she does. I really hope when Chandler is back Carlie starts at the point and Chandler at the 2.

Michigan had an rpi of 25 coming in, so not a bad loss. Would have been nice to find a way, but good learning experience for a young team regardless.

Really depressing loss. With Michigan's foul trouble, injuries, atypically bad ft shooting, etc., everything was aligned for us to win this one, yet we managed to lose it with one of the worst 2nd halves imaginable.
Not having Cooper is hurting more than I would have initially figured as right now the team is struggling mightly (to put it nicely) to run any sort offense in the half court that can score against the zone.

I think this will happen eventually, but right now Carlie is IMHO not good enough at running the offense. Today she did much better not turning it over, but the offense was still really stagnant when AB had to bench Bonds in the second half. Carlie has really barely played minutes at the 1 against BCS-level teams coming into this one.
Plus we just do not have any depth right now at guard with Cooper out. The 5 player rotation for 3 spots is Bonds, Needles, Moss, Miller and Svete. Miller is not ready for major minutes and Svete is really not a guard to begin with, so there aren't many options that don't include Bonds. I am curious to see if the staff will try to move Lewis back out to the 3, where she played as a freshman.
Not sure what is up with Bonds as this was I think one of the worst games she's played in her career. This with Michigan literally not guarding her at all for the most part. For this team this year, I think she simply has to be better than this.

I agree Needles needs more experience. I think now is the time to make that move though. The next few games are lesser opponents. I want Carlie getting that experience of running the team before SEC play. I still see Lewis as more a 3 so I would go with Needles, Moss, Lewis, George, and MacIntyre. Maybe benching Bonds and bringing her off the bench can light a bit of a fire under her. One thing I am certain of....if she doesn't start playing better this time next year she will be behind Peoples and Needles on the depth chart as a senior. Still, this wasn't a bad loss and it will help when Cooper is back, especially against a zone defense. I really like the upside of Moss, Needles, Cooper, and Mercer as they gain some experience.

I'm also really hoping the coaches can utilize McIntyre better. I don't really have the expectation at this point that she will average 20+ minutes in SEC play where many of the teams play very up-tempo, but if ever there was a game that called for her to play major minutes, it was this half-court slugfest against Michigan. Yet she still mostly rode the bench despite playing quite well in the first half.
Of course, if Lewis does spend some time at the 3, this would open up some more minutes for Vicky (as well as Mercer, who has really exceeded my expectations). But I don't this Lewis has played a single possession out on the perimeter thus far, so I'm not incredibly optimistic that that is in the plans of AB and crew.

Since I live about 45 minutes from Ann Arbor I decided to head over and check out the game in person at the Crisler Center yesterday...admittedly, I don't follow the women's team too closely but I was extremely impressed by Sydney Moss's performance yesterday - I know she was a highly touted prospect but she played fearlessly yesterday - I'm excited to see how she will get even better for us in the next 4 years...
On the flip side, I wasn't too impressed by McIntyre - she seemed lost on the court at times, particularly on defense, and a little out of shape as well, but she definitely has a lot of potential...
Also, given the recent talk about the potential O-Dome renovations, it's worth noting that Michigan just finished a $50 million renovation to the Crisler Center - although I don't know what the arena was like prior to the renovations, I was incredibly impressed by the facility from a fan standpoint - I thought it was one of the finer college basketball facilities that I've ever been to...it was hard to believe that the original arena was built 45 years ago...
