The tournament is underway. We are seeded #14 overall and hosting the first 2 rounds, facing Tulsa tonight and the 2nd round tomorrow.

Gainesville subregional:
#14 Florida vs Tulsa
Miami (FL) vs College of Charleston

Miami and CofC are underway way now and CofC surprisingly won the 1st set.

I think we should advance out of the subregional, but then we would be slated to face #3 Texas, on their home floor in the sweet 16. They swept us early in the season and have only moved up in the rankings since then. Doubt we could pull that off but a sweet 16 would not be a bad result for this team considering the youth and injuries.

The ladies swept Tulsa tonight 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-21). Red-hot start and a solid performance overall. If we can muster the same type of performance tomorrow, we should cruise into the sweet 16.

Next up is College of Charleston tomorrow at 7:30, after they shocked Miami in 5 in the opener.

Gators cruise into the sweet 16, sweeping College of Charleston 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-14). Really not sure how Miami lost to this team...

Anyhow, now its on to Austin to play the #3 seed 'Horns. They beat Texas A&M 3-1 in the 2nd round.

Texas beat us in the 2nd week of the season in the tournament at PSU 3-0 but the games were very close (29-27, 25-22, 26-24). So, hopefully we can compete well, though I think coming up with the upset win out there would be gravy at this point.

In other news, #9 seed FSU got upset at home in the 2nd round by Purdue 3-2. Sucks to be them.

#16 Kentucky also won 3-1 over Ohio State, making it a rare year when the SEC has a 2nd team in the sweet 16.

At the regional in Texas will be:
#3 Texas vs #14 Florida
#6 USC vs (#11 Kansas or Wichita State [in progress])

sweet 16 is already a successful season for me given how many new faces there were this year, everything else is just gravy.

We lost both matches at the Penn State tournament that featured the top 3 seeds in the tournament (3-0 to #3 seed Texas, 3-1 to #2 seed Stanford) and also lost at #9 seed FSU and got upset 3-2 at home to Tennessee in our only SEC loss. Only 4 losses - not bad for a rebuilding year.

Texas is just such a tough matchup with their Olympic level athletes on the left side who can just smash the ball down over the block, but you never know what can happen on a given night. We've got nothing to lose, so hopefully the girls go out and play like that!

Wichita State just upset #11 Kansas 3-1 to complete our regional. They will face #6 USC.

Just don't see short teams like UF win it all..Texas and USC are usually just bigger than UF.

Ugh! Literally an inch away from winning set 2, as Ziva was called for a back-row attack with us up 24-22. Hard to close out these tight sets on the road.

2-0 Texas (25-22, 26-24) going into the break...

Texas sweeps, 25-17 in the 3rd. Not a bad showing considering the talent disparity, but hard not to think it could've been a completely different match if we closed out set 2.

Nonetheless, not a bad season for the vball girls under the circumstances. Expect the team will be a bit better next year.

FWIW, we lost to the eventual national champs. I think we were more competitive against Texas than Oregon was in the title match last night.

Both of Texas' star OHs return, so they will prbably be favored to repeat.

i agree; especially our 1st 2 games vs the 'horns
