It is not a matter of fitting, but that he found an MD that would implant a defibulator in him and clear him to play and then found a school that would allow him to play.

Also inaccurate- he is in d1. Of his 5 games 1 was against a lower level opponent.

I'm glad he's healthy and able to be productive and wish him nothing but the best but he wasn't exactly a team player when he was here.

#1. I feel bad for the guy. When he transferred from UF, however, it was not health related. He did hurt his foot at one point in the season, but he ended up getting in the doghouse and had attitude problems, which led to his perma-benching and transfer.

His post-UF problems are unfortunate, but my perception of Allan Chaney relates to his decision to leave UF over PT and off the court problems. I feel bad for what he went through after leaving UF. But when he left, it was totally unrelated to this condition and was very much a mutual decision.

#2. I find it interesting that people on this forum don't have similar "once a gator" responses to other transfers that do well

#3. The kid is risking his life solely for the aim of playing pro basketball. There's a reason that despite his talent, almost no other division one program would let him to play. He's passed out playing ball since the VT episode. It just seems foolish, and in every interview he keeps talking about the NBA.

#4. He is so much more talented than the other players on those teams he's played against so far, posting that stat line reminds me of that last Chris Walker video.

He and Kadji were my favorite recruits in that class. I could recite Chaney's recruiting interview. But he definitely was a sour spot on that class during his freshman year. That whole class, sans Erv Walker, was just head scratching in the way it turned out. Kadji, Vargas, Chaney, and Shipman all transferred.

The rest of those guys have been mostly heckled on here after transferring from UF.

I agree, that class didn't work out great for Florida - However:

Walker - all time leader in assists back-to-back elite 8 appearances as starting PG.

Shipman - decided to play football and was a very serviceable player for UCF

Kadji - transferred to Miami - as a JR scored 12 pts 5 reb 1.6 blk and 41% from downtown at 6'11 242lbs

Vargas - won a national title at UK


I'd say it worked out for all of the players, Chaney is now getting his. I'm happy for him.

I would buy this IF he had not adopted what I viewed as a cocky attitude toward the nationally known heart expert who advised him not to play. That sounded like the Chaney I read about at UF.

Also if I were reading articles saying how serious a student he had become, I would be very sympathetic about him still going after his life-long dream of basketball. When nature gives you a big hint like a heart needing defibrillator implanted inside you to keep beating, you should probably put more emphasis on intellectual goals and less on physical goals.
