Neither am I pretending to be one, nor did I play one on TV. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
He was the overall #1 recruit, did not live up to expectations in his first two years (Clowney dominated in his freshman and sophomore years). Add to that 2 knee surgeries and that's cause for concern. That is how I reached that conclusion. Now go ahead and bash me for my opinion.
On the other hand, Bullard and Fowler have been beasts in their freshman year. Mind you Bullard arrived on campus in August.

I'd like to see them try Powell at middle linebacker. He also played tight end in high school and we're pretty thin there.

There's zero percent chance that Powell plays TE. It's LB/Buck or Bust... I wouldn't be surprised if they left Dante Fowler at Buck and played Powell at any LB spot.
Powell has had a whole year to sit out and rehab... He knows he only has 1 year left... That's 1 year to get his name to move up the NFL Draft charts... He knows he has to play beastmode or he may very well be looking for job in the sector he got his degree in.
I am really hoping he has a GREAT, injury-free, season. He needs it, for sure. He can still rise and be a high draft pick, I just don't see him going in the 1st. I think, at best, if he has a really good season, he can get up to the 2nd.

Powell led our team with 6.5 sacks last yr, and before he got hurt CWM said he was the most improved and talented player on the field this spring.
Good thing your not our coach.

Knee injuries simply aren't the death sentence they used to be. I fully expect Powell to be at full strength by next fall and have a big year. If he stays injury free and is back to full speed, he is likely the best most complete athlete on the team. Not only does he have a chance to be a factor, he has a chance to dominate.
I am hopeful.

I don't understand the notion that Powell underachieved his first two seasons. Did Elam underachieve? Easley? Floyd? Because Powell was as successful as any of them the last yeas. Did he struggle with consistent effort? Yes. Did he struggle with various assignment responsibilities essentially playing three different positions in two defensive systems over the course of two seasons? Yes. Did he live up to his prep billing his first two seasons? No.
But how many kids do? Clowneys and Jeffcoats and such are the exceptions, not the rules. Most kids take awhile to get going and Powell is no exception. But he still earned league all-freshman honors, led the team in sacks as a sophomore, and by all accounts coming out of offseason workouts and spring practices stood to make the same kind of leap his fellow 2010 defensive classmates did this past fall. I don't see any reason he can't next year provided his health is good.

kylexcited: So excited that Caleb Brantley is "1000%" committed. Do we know the story of why he was banned from FSU and why his offer was rescinded?
A: Brantley, who has been committed to Florida since Jan. 28, decided to visit FSU for the Florida game decked out in Florida gear. The big defensive tackle was also seen cheering for the Gators during the game. Obviously, that didn't sit too well with the Florida State staff and therefore he is not allowed to visit FSU again this year. I can't really blame FSU for making those decisions. I'm sure many other schools would have done the same. In any case, this is big news for the Gators. With Florida probably losing junior Sharrif Floyd to the NFL draft and Omar Hunter graduating, there are some depth concerns at defensive tackle for Florida next season. Brantley and junior college transfer Darious Cummings are almost certain to see early playing time.

I guess it now will be hard for him to flip to the Noles since he's banned from campus.
