7. "Chandler Bang"

I love Chandler Parsons. He's a nice all-around player whom the Rockets smartly locked into a four-year contract that never exceeds $1 million in annual salary. It's borderline unfair already.

"Chandler Bang" is the combination nickname/exclamation Houston's play-by-play announcer screams every time Parsons hits a 3. It might be a play on "bang" for a made shot and the "Chandler Bing" character from Friends, but it has become one of those irritating little announcing idiosyncrasies you hear across the League Pass spectrum.

Also, I found his breakdown of Carmello Anthony playing the four very interesting. On the one hand, it gives you a good idea how Donovan wants to defend when we go small with Prather or one of the guards at the four, or even with Murphy at the five. On the other hand, I think it also shows the strides Anthony has made as a player. I've always thought a guy like him thrives in a more strict offensive system that puts him in his positions of strength (post ups, face ups from the free throw line), like Boeheim did with his little high-low offense at Syracuse, rather than a more open pick and roll, iso offense like the ones Karl and D'Antoni run, which just tends to embolden Anthony to take inefficient shots. If he keeps playing this way--and I know it is still early--he could legitimately become a MVP candidate and the Knicks might end up the second best team in their conference.

Chandler had something like 18 points 13 boards and filled up some more of the stat sheet last night. He was also the one playing lock down defense on the bulls player down the stretch in a 2 point game. He is officially a stud and will go down as the steal of his draft. Represent Chandler!

The two( Parsons and Anthony) will meet Friday. I wanted the Knicks to draft Parsons because I though he would have mad a perfect MDA player with his all around skills but the rockets picked him up. Parsons just needs to keep growing into his man's body and improve his FT shooting and 3 pt shooting. Fans really love him in Houston. He is also becoming a good defender. In some ways he reminds me of Tayshon Prince but Parson has way more potential offensively. His handle has improved and if he learns how to breakdown the D I could see them putting the ball in his hands some.

In regard to Anthony he had MVP caliber starts before as a 3 but was derailed by injuries or the suspension and even Karl's battle with Cancer. The reason this year he is getting love is because he is playing D more consistently instead of waiting until it's a big match up or the playoffs.

I haven't seen any of his games, but I follow the box scores and read Feigen's blog at the Chronicle. Parsons was really impressive last year, from his weakside offensive rebounding to his fantastic finishing ability to his on-ball defense and ability to jump passing lanes. I agree that once the jumper starts going down, he will be a real commodity in the league. He never struck me as having star quality, but has an assortment of skills that make him a great complementary player.

I still recall "Thatruth" blasting Franz for saying we recruited Parsons as a three. He thought Parsons wasn't quick enough to play there at the collegiate level. Well, not only was he league player of the year at the three, but now he is a quality starting three in the NBA. If only Houston hadn't blown so much on that point guard from Harvard...

I still remember Greg Anthony gushing about Parson's potential as a Freshman. Said he was UF's most talented player.

Man, I remember Parsons as a freshman. All gangly, uncoordinated and obviously unprepared for SEC basketball. And now he's a legit NBA player with top-notch athleticism. Cool.
