Default Grades v MTSU

These grades come with a couple of caveats...1) My DVR missed the first 6 min of game time and 2) I could only get a SD feed so I probably missed a couple of things.

Overall, I was very impressed with how well coached and tough MTSU was. Billy did a fantastic job at half time on the adjustments and really made it easy for us to win.

Onto the grades...

Rosario, 4: Didn't shoot particularly well from deep and it seemed like his feet werent set on some and he was pushing the other ones too much with his arms. Seemed a little out of control at times again. Defensively, I didn't notice much good or bad which for Mike is a plus.

KB, 7: I liked what Billy said post game about him and was pretty much spot on. He was very patient and then took over when we needed it. His def was very tough and once again his Reb was a huge help. I love that he is willing to stick his nose in finally this year. Also noticed he ran some PG even with scottie in for a good stretch. Not sure how he lost the ball up top on in the 1st half without being pressured.

Murphy, 3: I dont think he did anything particularly bad and he was bound to have a let down after last game. My main issue with him today was lack of reb and lack of posting up hard. He played a soft game where he looked to have a size advantage and height advantage.

Young, 3: See Murphy...too soft. This was a game where his physicalness should ahve been on display on offense. When he did catch with good position he was too unselfish. I understand he had foul trouble and was getting mauled but c'mon pat you are still so much stronger than everyone else it shouldnt matter. Only 2 reb for him could start to be prolematic.

Yeguete, 7: Mr. 1st half as he pretty much was our 1st half on both ends. 5 off reb and just a beast on def. His 2nd 3 was ugly. He does so many intangible things also.

Walker, Inc.: only 3 min

Kurtz, Inc: only 1 min

Frazier II, 4: Didn't do anything bad except failing to either hedge on def on the pick and roll or hedging too much depending on what the call was to play it. 2 reb in 12 min.

Graham, Inc: I liked what i saw in the 4 min. He spotted up twice on dirves where he was wide open but the driver shot the ball. It was nice off the ball movement and looked fine on D.

Ogbueze, 1: Again I still dont see yet how he can help us this year. In the 1st half just didnt bring anything to the table that I saw. Came in at garbage time and chucked up a bad challenged 3 early in the shot clock. When running PG you simply have to try and get your mates involved. It was a selfish stupid play and I hope he learns from it.

Wilbekin, 6: Typical excellent defense. Solid on the offensive end. He brought a toughness and security with the ball that we will need.

Billy, 7: Im not sure they were really as well prepared in the 1st half as necessary. The post entries still need alot of work. The FT shooting was an issue (and I expect it to be again). The 2nd half adjustments were brilliant and made it an easy game for us.

Officials, 5: They made some horrendous calls both way but I trust Billy when he said it was a tough game to call.

Mark Wise, fireable: I know some people like him but man is he horrible on tv. First his voice is nasally and very annoying. Second, how many times can he get on his soapbox. They should change this about college hoops and change that. Of course he was way off base on Larry just moved right on rather than engage him, which was the veteran move. It was also a telling sign. Typically the play by play guy will ask follow up questions or circle back to a major point but Larry wanted nothing to do with it. As an analyst he bring nothing to the table and is wrong way too often. His insight is also moronic. (Note: this is not about his radio work and strictly related to his job on TV) He should stick to the sideline gig, which he also is below avg at btw.

Feel free to discuss....but note if you defend Wise's work in relation to this game you are just wrong or dont understand college hoops (you can pick which one fits you better).

I think Mark is very knowledgeable. . . though he does get into patterns that can be annoying. He harped way too long on the "hand-to-hand combat" on the free throw lane.
And "Middle". . . ugh! Call them bytheir mascot. "Middle" was annoying.

As for the game grades. . . I generally agree. Considering his role and how perfectly he plays it, I could make an arguement for WY getting higher than a "7".

As usual, appreciate the honest, non-o&b glasses appraisal of the game. I couldn't watch, only listened, but seems fairly reasonable.

A 7 makes two high ratings for bill d in a row. becoming a softy.
Murphy had a more typical Murphy game. Hoping he steps it back up as the season goes. But more concerned that PY might never turn the corner and become the player many of thought with his frame.

Wise is one of the luckiest people in broadcasting. Unfortunately, he probably fits the budget and is better than most of the other options they've rolled through in the past.

Florida Gulf Seafood Commercial: 2
The commercial is so bad that it actually is funny.
"Just based on versatility...I'd go with shrimp. I see a lot of potential there."

Wow, the constant "middle" killed me too, I like Mark but that was just schtick and was annoying he has a point about officiating though, if they would just call fouls consistently as a rule then the game would change.

Speaking of that, this was a game like we end up getting in against Tennessee, constant hacking and pushing, and hey, we won going away, should be a help later this year,

What I love is that this is KB's team, he is contributing even when he is not scoring, and when he feels it, watch out

Patrick is a 4 year guy, unless the light turns on real quick, nothing wrong with that. I love 4 year guys

Tough game for Murph, they didn't give him much room to breathe, smart move by them, still, he didn't force things and took what was given

UF is going to be high profile this year and Young is going to have some monster games. The hype might be enough to get him into the late lottery/mid-first based upon size and athletic potential.

At this point, yes he SHOULD be a four year guy, but I don't know if he WILL be.

What must one do to get an 8 or higher??

Will played his game absolutely perfectly.

13 boards, hands on 6-7 more....no turnovers, hits over 50% again from the field (66%)...I guess the 2-6 from the stripe. Didn't rush anything except the 2nd 3, which he only took since the first one looked so smooth.

I had to work so I just got done watching the game, I though it was hilarious watching the team laugh at Young for airballing a freethrow.

Poor fT shooting. Air balled a 3. Didn't have a great 2nd half. A 7 is a very strong grade and wy had a very good game.

I get it, but what's the difference between airballing a 3 and just missing a 3?

That shouldn't negatively affect ranking.

And we all know he's not a 3 point shooter, BUT his 50% from behind the arc was higher than anyone else on the team from that distance.

At least he dropped his 3 point shooting percentage rules that he used every broadcast last year. He drove me crazy with that one. As a side note, have you ever noticied that Mary Wise, when discussing her volleyball team's performance, uses the same basketball analogies
that her husband uses when discussing the game?

Regarding 7s for Yeguete and Boynton, one year as an undergraduate (1968 to be specific), I took two courses (Philosophy of Science and of Change) from a visiting professor from Australia who said the very first day: "No one gets an A from me. Bertrand Russell might be able to earn an A, but no one of lesser ability can."

It appears that Tupa has adopted that Philosophy, that a 5 is "pretty good" a 7 is "Very Good" and a 9 is "Exceptionally Good."

I would have dropped the class, gone out and had my name legally changed to Bertrand Russell, then picked up the class again in drop-add with my new name.

"no one gets an A from me"

with that, I would've raised my hand and asked "considering this rigid viewpoint on grading, would you really qualify yourself a credible expert on the contemplation of change?"

which would've been followed by me standing up and walking out to change courses and while I was walking out I would add "perhaps you should think about that question."

nothing ticked me off more than pompous arrogant professors. ESPECIALLY when it came to meaningless douchebag subjects like philosophy.

Ugh.
Very obvious omission on scallops. How can they leave out scallops?

Pure corn but it works somehow, luckily I think for whoever wrote it.

Hard to say what really happened in the game with preparation vs adjustments.

MTSU is very undersized in the frontcourt in relation to the Gators, so you would think that "pound it inside" would have been the game plan from the get go.

I'm guessing that the players got caught up in the tempo MTSU was setting early (WY launching a 3 is the most glaring evidence of that) and PY picked up a 2nd foul before things got calmed down. So much for pounding it inside with PY on the bench for the rest of the first half.
