Default How bad are uga and tenn this year?

Uga barely beat Jacksonvile, then got handled by Youngstown state and Southern Miss(in front of coach Richt and about a dozen other fans)

UT squeaked by Kennesaw St and Ashville and just got pounded by OK State.

With the play and attendance of UGA, maybe they should consider just playing womens BBall...seriously

Surprised Tenn lost so badly. Well, it's a long season and they have time to pull it together. UGA probably will continue to suck.

I guess Tenn was missing their second best player, but still not an excuse.

UGA shot 38% from the field and 52% from the line against S Miss. Their best player Caldwell Pope shot 5-21 from the field. This Dawg team looks like an awful unit and will be their coach's 3rd losing season in 4 years. There is a lot of talent in the Atlanta area but apparently the Dawgs are not getting their fair share.

It doesn't matter. As long as we beat them. Last year somebody posted a thread on how bad Tenn. was and fun of their early season. They were so bad they beat us twice. If we beat them fine. But what does it say about us if we lose to them.

Yeah I was surprised TN lost so bad and struggled in their first win...UGA I figured would suck because they lost most of their contributors from last year which was an awful team as well (we lost to them how?)...TN I am guessing was missing either Jarnell Stokes or Trae Golden...without looking it up those are their two best players IMO

Jeronne Maymon is injured for UT (torn meniscus that was repaired in March but he is still walking with a noticeable limp). Maymon averaged 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season. They really don't have anyone to help replace him and so they were able to get by until they played Okie St. Until Maymon comes back UT will struggle against good competition.

All that said, UF doesn't play UT until Feb 26th by which time Maymon will probably be healthy and UT will probably hitting on all cylinders. Just great :-p

Yea it is Maymon that has been out and he is a force. Tennessee should still be doing better than this though. Georgia is just awful.

I wonder how bad the outcome of the UGA vs. IU game will be. Hopefully UGA will do better than Sam Houston State but I'm not too optimistic. :-\

The scheduling is very interesting in the SEC.

The Gators play 5 teams twice: Kentucky (Ranked 20, RPI .75), plus 4 other rotating teams. This year, the other four are Missouri (ranked about 40, RPI .68), Georgia (ranked about 170, RPI .56), Arkansas (ranked 211, RPI .375), Mississippi State (ranked 233, RPI .25 ).

So, two of the stronger teams twice and 3 of the weaker ones.

Regarding single games, the road games are against:
LSU (Ranked 180, RPI .44)
Tex A&M (Ranked 8, RPI .83)
Auburn (Ranked 286, RPI .22) &
Tennessee (Ranked 32, RPI .64)

The 4 home games are:
South Carolina (ranked 252, RPI .25)
Ole Miss (ranked 97, RPI .54)
Alabama (ranked 2, RPI .94) &
Vanderbilt (ranked 252, RPI .25)

Admittedly, the RPI and those rankings are utterly meaningless right now, but it is rather interesting to see how this schedule will play out ultimately. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/rankings

Arkansas is better than their RPI ranking right now. They should be a bubble team. Same with Ole Miss.

Actually, I don't really think that RPIs mean much at any time, however, at this point in a season, they at least give one some sort of a "measurement" regarding the relative difficulty of given games.

Not a very good measurement, admittedly, but the "Until February" is a good reckoning for basketball evaluations.

KenPom rankings are basically pointless this early as well, but at least they're factoring in some kind of preseason expectations... It's more accurate than the RPI right now.

Kentucky is #2
Florida is #4
Alabama is #27
Missouri is #33
Ole Miss is #51
Tennessee is #68
Texas A&M is #99
Vanderbilt is #102
Arkansas is #107
Georgia is #115
LSU is #123
South Carolina is #146
Auburn is #173
Mississippi State is #177

Arkansas may be a little low and Georgia may be a little high. Those rankings look pretty accurate to me other than that, though.

Tennessee is one of my sleeper teams this year. However, they do need Maymon to be so.

Oklahoma St. should also be very good this year. So it's not that bad a loss

Ding!

And the man wins a kewpie doll.

RPI does not even take into account home court/road game/neutral game, let alone margin of victory.

And it is an easy thing to "game" if you have ESPN in your pocket. Then you can schedule good (but not too good because they might beat you!) mid-major teams on your home floor in the OOC, schedule good Div. 1 teams the same way without ever going to the other school's gym in subsequent years, and only play elite Div.1 teams on semi-neutral (favors you a lot) floors.
