Early Signing Period
Anybody got ideas on who will sign Nov 14-21? On the Emblid thread, people were saying he is going to Kansas. Hill, Walker, anyone else?

Probably no one new. I assume Hill and Walker are signing early. The remaining players left on our board, Randall and Johnson are late period signees.

There is really no read on Parker. He follows the UF visit with Stanford and BYU, and then decides whether he will even attend college. A lot to decide here. I have been checking with my connections in the UF Mormon group for info. I'll update if I get any feedback. If my brother in law was still at UF during his visit, Parker would be a Gator.

What are the rules regarding the NBA draft as they apply to someone doing a Mormon mission?

If I am not mistaken the rule is that you have to be one year out of high school and 19 years old to be eligible for the draft, and nothing else really matters.

Correct. He could go on his mission then straight to the NBA, skipping college altogether. This is only now a possibility, with the church having just recently changed its position to allow missions as early as age 18, rather than 19. Previously, he wouldn't have been able to go on his mission until he was a sophomore.
Of course, he does not need to go on a mission. Steve Young is one example of a Mormon athlete who elected to pass on the mission, playing college football and then going straight to the NFL. He felt his position as a pro athlete helped in that capacity.
Parker has spoken with Steve Young about this possibility as well. He has a lot of decisions to make.

We lose Boynton, Rosario and Murphy for certain and add Hill and Walker.
If we can keep Patric Young for his senior season, plus the two transfers, we should have an outstanding team even if we don't sign anyone else.

UF desperately needs to sign 1 or 2 more big men (by big, 6'7 and taller) for this class. We are going to be dodging bullets all season (i.e. tonight against Wisconsin with Murphy possibly out) with our lack of depth in the frontcourt. If Young leaves after this season, we will be in the same boat next year.
It is almost unbelievable that a D1 basketball team, like UF, is entering a season with just two players on the roster over 6'7. We all better hope Murphy and Young stay healthy because if not, UF is in real trouble. Billy's recruiting of bigs the last couple of years has been poor (Pitchford is the only big signed in the last two classes, and he is long gone) and hopefully, it does not come back to bite us.

Counting Harris and Finney-Smith, the 2013 team will add at least 3, and as many as 5 bigs.

Where have you been? The two transfers give us plenty inside. We will be loaded next season

Where have I been? Murphy is a SR and Young is a good possibility to leave also after this season. So, that leaves UF with only Yeguette returning who is a front court player.
Yes, we have two transfers coming in who are very good prospects but both of whom averaged six points a game last year. We have Walker, a stud recruit coming, so that gives us three kids next year over 6'7, and that is not enough. Look at what happened to Harris this year with the shoulder injury... if that happened next year instead, UF is in trouble.
To say UF doesn't need to add at least one more front court player to this class is clueless.

Stingbb, I am with you. One injury and we play sf's at pf slots. But we do have two great transfers and Chris "Skywalker" coming in. We will be alright, but if Billy can put one more great big in the basket, watch out College Basketball, he we come for years in the future. We will be looking to take on kentucky with our own dynamite!

It's very possible and maybe even probable. But unless he graduated and/or his mom doesn't have much say in it, he should be staying to get a degree first.

Murphy is a senior, or are you saying because his stock is skyrocketing he will leave early?
