Does the suspension of Wilby = benching of Mike?
I am wondering if Wilby's suspension will have the net result of changing our starting lineup upon his return. I was surprised to see Billy go with the big lineup, as WY has some shortcomings at that spot, as well as it points us at risk relating to fouls/depth. But there is no denying that Will brings a tremendous amount to the court.
So, in 4 games... does Kenny simply slide back to the 2 and Mike becomes 6th man, or does Will return to coming off the bench and the Gators start smaller?
Thoughts?

probably tied to performance. if Will does well at the 3 and/or Mike doesn't light it up or struggles defensively then you might see rosario coming off the bench.
have to say, BD will get some quality data - first w/ georgetown, next with wisconsin. it's quite a start to a season!

I think we'll probably go to the three-guard lineup with Yeguete getting starter's minutes off the bench. Prather and whichever freshman plays the best will also get significant time.

Kenny has looked pretty good at the point, I see Scotty as sixth man spelling Rosario first and then Boynton

Interesting. . . so you think the lineup we see now will remain the starting lineup, and the Wilby comes off the bench?
I would be surprised... but interesting...

I think so, as long as Rosario proves he can play good enough defense and limit his turnovers, plus, once you are in Billy's doghouse it can be a long climb out, getting Prather back may move Will back to the bench , granted, these are all good problems to have

That would surprise me as well... Boynton looked good at point against Alabama State, but let's not forget that it was Alabama State, who will be one of the worst teams in D1 this season. Wilbekin came in as the starting point guard and it would take some seriously good point guard play from Boynton against good competition (which ASU isn't) to replace him at the position imo.

If the current lineup has success, I think we will do what you suggest. We aren't going to change something that has been successful. If we struggle against Wisc, I can see us going back to what we had originally.
I don't think Wilbekin has necessarily proven he will be a successful starting PG. It sounds like his suspension, to some degree, relates to him not meeting expectations. Donovan expects the most from the starting PG.

Wilbekin, Boynton, Prather, Murphy, Young Starting Five after Scottie returns
First off bench: Will Y., Rosario, D. Walker
Frazier, Ogbueze, Graham these freshmen will be inserted as needed when Billy needs to teach some of the older players lessons.
Since their is a lot of talent at the guard positions, as the year goes on we will see the cream rise to the top. It could be by injury or talent just coming through. Also, the right starting five could change due to so many 2g and SF's on the team and due to the competition's strengths.

In a perfect world, I agree with this. I think it's important to have one of our 3 big guys coming off the bench in order to facilitate a rotation later in the year. I think Prather is the key. If he can come in and play the way he did in the NCAA tourney last year, we will be an amazing team. If not, we might struggle with lineups for a while.

I gotta say, I believe we have more options than I would have guessed a week ago. I couldn't see WY succeeding as a 3...now I can see it. I couldn't see KB succeeding as a point. Now I can see it.
At least against Wiscy, a big team, I like having Yeguete at the 3. We're going to need his defense and rebounding.

Hopefully when he comes back he puts Rosario on the bench. I have been disappointed in what I have seen from Rosario since he got here. Wilbekin is a better 3 point shooter, defender, and plays better in the flow of our offense.

If Wilbekin comes off the bench that will only occur because he remains in Billy D's doghouse.
Boynton to the 2, Wilbekin at 1, and either Rosario or Prather at the 3 is the most likely starting scenario when he is back. However, starting and finishing are two different things.
