For the second time in two contests, Will Yeguete emerges as the Most Valuable Gator with 47 Value Points in one half of work. He was on course for another double-double with 8 points, 4 rebounds, an assist, with 1 steal and no turnovers. The other bigs, Patric Young and Erik Murphy had solid 1st halfs with scores of 31 and 30 respectively.

I was very impressed with Yuegette. He's added some nice offensive moves to his usual great rebounding and defense.

I couldn't help but wonder how much he would have helped us down the stretch last year. We may have made it to the Final Four and possibly the title game.

He has added bulk as well. He has become formidable. I wish we could have seen the action better. Can't wait to see Prather back.

He was really good at the things that don't show up in the stat line as well, poking the ball loose, frustrating his opponent, keeping the ball alive, just being the manic energy guy you really love. It was great basketball. He's gonna get starter minutes even if he doesn't start.

He reminds me a lot of SC's Reynaldo Balkman, who was a sort of Hobbit Joakim Noah.

Feedback needed.

Can people without Insider subscriptions now see all Gator Value Scores via the link provided? The link goes to a .png image of the value scores in my Gator Country picture album that in theory, is accessible by everyone. Previously I used thumbnail attachments to share the Value Score table. The thumbnails could not be read by everyone so I'm trying a different strategy.

Can see it fine, also. Do you normally divide total credits by minutes to get a more accurate measurement ?

I believe he had 8 points, not 6. That would change his score by 2 X 4 =8 - 2 (-2 X 1) = +6 = 47 + 6 =53.

Or did you merely report it incorrectly yet compute it correctly?

Balkman is actually a pretty good comparison. He was a similarly versatile player and great defender who was also incredible active. Yeguete is much better rebounder, especially on the offensive end.

My summary write up was wrong. I corrected. Thanks!

The actual boxscore data in the lower table correctly credited Will for scoring 8 points. The upper translation table applies the coefficients for each stat and I manually shuffle the player scores from highest to lowest.

In answering another question, I do not divide the totals by minutes. That would give another efficiency statistic (value points/minutes). That stat would be pretty tough though for a single game since some of the reserves only play a few minutes. On the other hand, for season summary totals, that would be an interesting stat for determining a season boxscore MVG.

Actually, that is an excellent idea. It is always a good idea to standardize and by basing credits per minute played, you get a more accurate estimate of a players contribution, at least a better "statistical" estimate, given all of the numerous limitations inherent in such estimates.

However, as you note, and for that reasons, game by game it is not a reasonable thing to do.
