So, the Good Points from 20 Minutes...
Our zone looked very active.
Will Yeguete was great on defense, great on rebounding, and much improved on offense. I thought having him playing the 3 would be a disaster, but he performed quite well.
Kenny didn't look so good as a point guard. He looked like a shooting guard playing the point. Gotta get Scottie going.
Pat has refined his offensive skills.
Eric looks to be a good rebounder, picking up where he left off last season.
Mike R...scoring ability, still shaky on everything else.
Georgetown will be pretty good. They'll win a lot of games with defense.

All good points and I completely agree on Yeguete. The one problem with him at the three was spacing and that did result in several early turnovers, as well as some difficulty getting a look from the arc. But the trade off was the ability to shut down the wings in that 2-3.
Yeguete looks very motivated after missing time at the end of last year. He has always been energetic and competitive, but the added bulk looked to help him in the paint at both ends, while the little dribble drive move from the top of the key was sweet. If he can continue finding creative ways like that to score, he would be right up there with Boynton in terms of our most well-rounded player.
Not sure Boynton was terrible at the one so much as tentative. His turnovers mostly seemed to have as much to do with other guys not being spaced out or communicating, which in turn led him to be hesitate with his decisions. He should be fine there for 10-12 minutes or so a game.

Murphy and Young were the only Gators to shoot freethrows and they went 4-4.

Yeguete was a beast on both ends of the court--and showcased an improved offensive effort that's very encouraging. Murphy picked right up where he left off from last year--and looks like he's gotten a bit better on defense to boot.
Liked the energy from Frazier and Graham--both will see some good minutes for us this year. Graham in particular can fit in nicely with Donovan's offensive schemes...but I liked his eagerness on the defensive side of the court too. If both can give us solid minutes in the rotation off the bench, I like our chances this year.

Can always count on '4ever' for the positive spin.

A lot of entry passes into the post to all 3 of our big men. Patrick Young REALLY seems to have worked on his offensive game.
His footwork was real solid, he had a nice little baby left hand hook off the glass, he made his free throws.
Looks like he is serious about getting himself into the lottery this year!
I'm excited

If our bigs improved as much as it looked like they did last night, we are in darn good shape. In others news...
If Boynton is our PG for most of the year, we could be in big trouble. He is a great offensive/defensive threat but his ball handling is still a question mark. Several times we should have been running a fastbreak but he had to pull it back. I think we'll miss Erv more than a lot of people here realize.
Rosario... What the heck happened? I'll go ahead and hope that it was because of the conditions, but I'm not sure why people think he may be our best 3 point shooter. He also is way to prone to turnovers. I'm rooting for the guy (I was always a big fan of his at Rutgers) but I think he has a lot to work on.
Other than that, it's hard to say much. The whole game just felt weird, and as great as the idea was, I'm kind of glad it's behind us.

to play a team like g-town straight out of the box is pretty impressive. think we're way further along than normal. BD must have the guys really going at it in practice. might be a reason the freshmen are farther along than most incoming groups.
was excited by how good the zone 'd' looked. just the energy.
everything about WY is exciting. love to watch him play the game.
i feel i might be missing EWalk at point this year. may take some time to get that position up to speed and have us all comfortable w/ the play/performance/execution.
speaking of WY, i like him at 3. might be some mismatches, but i figure, the opposition will be saying the same thing trying to match up w/ him.

We just can't run our offense if those perimeter guys can't execute the ball screens or shoot jumpers. He would be perfectly fine defensively (then again, Yeguete would be good defensively everywhere besides the one), but he doesn't have the shot or ball skills--despite the great drive from the top of the key--to be an effective three. Teams could sag off him into the paint and close down post entry passes or driving lines. They also could double the post off the weakside without worrying about anyone rotating over there. Then again, we have some of the same problems with Prather, but his shooting and ballhandling are still better than Yegeute's at this stage.

Will did make a nice entry pass to Young from the elbow against the zone, his height and strength make him a good fit there. especially if he shows that he can hit a jumper from there
