Default Anyone Attend the 'Homecoming' Scrimmage?

need a report of the action - who looked good, any surprises. the GC talks about 'sparks flying' - what was meant by that?

who started where? zack powers on 1st? who was in the outfield, at short and 3rd, etc? and who was on the mound and saw action pitching?

The scrimmage of Friday proved to be more of a pitching clinic led by Karsten Whitson (jr) who looked in top form. By the 3rd inning he was just getting warmed up by hitting mid 90's with his fast ball and throwing good off speed to keep the eager hitters at bay. Freshman pitchers Hanhold and Simpson also looked good with both throwing in the low 90's and mixing in their off speeds pitches. Their is definitely speed on the team led by Martin and Tobias that will play a factor this season. With the loss of Tucker, Zunino and Johnson I would expect to see more small ball this season to generate runs. Defense looked good with Martin at ss showing off his arm and range and the outfielders diving for balls to make exceptional plays. To stay competive this year the team will need strong pitching and defense and hope the hitting comes around which I'm sure will be there when the season gets underway.

Thanks for that handy report. I've made it to a couple of weekend scrimmages, but I seldom can get to the weekday afternoon workouts. The final scrimmages are today, Thursday and Friday and I'll be grateful for more reports like Handi's, even if they are just informal impressions of who did what.
