Just had a couple fat tires at a friends place. First time I've ever seen someone play beer pong with good beer. Does this mean I am an adult now?

The ten year was phenomenal. The 16 year is no where near that level but is an interesting brew. Some people hated it, some liked it. As gator884 said above, I hope you like lemons.

I don't, so I'm not wasting the money. Thanks for the heads up! Really pissed I didnt buy a pile of the 10 yr when it was available to me.

RE: Southern Tier. I shouldn't have said none are worth writing home about since I havent tried nearly all of them. The few I have tasted were very underwhelming.

Southern Tier Unearthly is outstanding and a great value when you can find it. I haven't seen it for two or three months and it had disappeared completely for a year or so before that.

Picked up some Founders Backwoods Bastard this weekend. A scotch ale aged in bourbon barrels. I really enjoyed it. Real smooth and the finish made me think of a Makers and coke. This was the first barrel aged beer I have actually enjoyed. Founders rarely lets me down.

I would really like to thank the posters on this thread. I like many kinds of beers but must admit I do not have a developed beer palate. As a wine drinker (my cellar amazes most people) I never gave beer much thought.

Tonight, as a result of this thread, I bought a variety of high alcohol growlers to give them a try. Tonight I started with the Oak Aged Yetti Imperial Stout. Darn good start.

The local Whole Foods was scheduled to get that last week. I forgot to check in on it because my wife and I had scheduled a trip to Grand Rapids over the weekend and I was going to pick it up directly from the brewery, but we canceled the trip at the last minute. I've had it on tap at the brewery and it's outstanding. I'm not even a Scotch Ale lover, but I loved this stuff.

IMHO, Founders is one of the top three or four breweries in the US.

Found another dirt cheap Double IPA. It's called Imperial Jack from Rhinelander brewery in Wisconsin. $2.99 for a bomber, 75 IBUs, 8.5% ABV. Starting to see a pattern here. Hops are more precious than alcohol content. This one is not as bland as the Trader Joe's stuff I had this weekend. Too bad. This could do with some blandness. Reminds me of some of those really strong eastern European beers, mostly Lithuanian I think. Very heavy alcohol sweetness with no hop bitterness or Belgian wild yeasts to set it off. One of the more blue collar types at Binny's was pushing these on my two or three years ago. My first impression was that this was the MD 20/20 of beer.

My recommendation is to stick to what you like if you can afford it. If $5.00 a bomber is your bottom range, there's no reason to try this stuff, but if you're hitting a rough patch like me, the Trader Joe's DIPA isn't bad. If you don't have a TJ's near by, your local liquor store might have this Imperial Jack stuff. It's not great, but it goes down easier than three or four bottles of Bud, Coors or Miller Lite/Light.

Cigar City White Oak Aged Jai Alai IPA.

The white oak gives it a nice hint of vanilla. It's every bit as good as the original, a nice twist though.
