I spoke with Mike HIll about this, and it was part of a column I did several weeks ago. We have NOT entirely abandoned MM. Per Mike Hill, the decision to have the event is made on a year-to-year basis, and is made by both UAA staff and the coaching staff. Mike had stated that the best attended events in the past have coincided with a home football weekend. That not being the case... combined with the early season gamve -v- Georgetown... the decision was made to bypass MM this year in favor of traditional practice time.
We will have midnight madness again.

AKA, when was the last time we had Midnight Madness. Mike Hill's response sounds like politicians saying we will do it after the election. Again, get students involved that can come up with some current ideas. So we have a game with Georgetown, not a reason to not have it. Also, not having a home game with football, not a reason to not have it. We could have the event a week later. These are excuses from the controlling people that don't want to do it due to the commitment. Let students do the work load and let the team come and tweek anything they come up with. We have a great program and university, let's support the program. I suspect Midnight Madness would be boring with the fore-mentioned people putting it together. Let people that know marketing and event planning get in the forefront, not coaches or older alumni. Let's keep it fresh and bring in new fans. Old fans like me will come anyway, new fans need a little more prodding. With a poor economy and not selling out the O'dome, its time to update Midnight Madness with new ideas and let students and student athletes come up with these ideas because this would keep it interesting. Remember Tupac thought MM was stupid. He was probably correct in that nothing was fresh and new ideas not incorporated. I just hate seeing all the other major programs in Basketball having sold out fun while we say, we have those, trust me. Again when was the last Midnight Madness, what was your thought , if you went, to what you personally liked or disliked, and how well was it attended.

You do not have to sell me on midnight madness. That said, from knowing Mike, and in light of his other very honest answers in the column . . . . I do not think he was just giving lip service.

Does anyone know when the last MM was help? If you know and went, enlighten this board as to what happened in total. Thanks in advance.
If nobody knows, then the event must of been boring and needs to be changed. LOL

It was following our first national title. The highlights included a fake crystal trophy being dropped and the unveiling of our National Championship Banner. As I recall, Noah competed in . . . and maybe even won . . . the 3 point shooting contest that paired a men's and women's player.
You're welcome!

thanks AKA, I thought this was the last time. I had Googled MM Gatorbasketball and it gave me this but I wasn't sure if this was right.
My personal view, is have a BBQ with reasonable prices 7-9 pm, 9-11pm a concert or comic event leading up to MM, at 11pm introduce any past star players, any new recruits, any short film clicks from the past, then interviewing the team with someone who is good at talking to large audiences narrating, a quick dunk contest, shooting contest, and a short full court practice. Players and coaches could attend all and give autographs and answer fans questions.
This should be annual just like Gator Growl. The scope of entertainment could be picked by students, the team and coaches, alumni and for ideas ask all Gator websites to forward ideas. Again we need to ask all high schools teams in the state with an invite and wear their colors. Prizes for some of these like tickets to some of the games. I not trying to sell u, you are a fan just like me on hoops, this is my personal wish and plan to help grow the fanbase and connect to a lot of new fans. Go Gator Hoops!

I like what Mississippi State just did.
We could do this and close Gale Lemerand between BHF and the O-dome:

Good post. As I said... no need to sell me on it. I am sold. I have been critical of our decisions not to host MM for the past several years. It is a reason I asked Mike HIll about it during my interview with him. I also think it needs some new, fresh ideas.

This corresponds exactly with what I posted. I'm still waiting to hear back in response to the participation question, and a call has been put in to Billy but we've been too busy to follow up. I'll get an answer on that from the man himself.
