The kid is strong, and with learning how to be a better RB from college coaches he could be a very tough RB for Bama. He just won't have the elusive speed and same ability as Kelvin Taylor.

Tebow would not start anywhere in the SEC at RB. He is not nearly as good as the other two RB's in Alabama's class. He doesn't have the feet.

Tebow as a freshman had 89 carries, 469yds, 8TDs, 5.3ypc was 4th in the SEC.
You can say he doesn't have the feet all you want, I saw him run.

Derrick Henry has a mind set like Tebow not afraid of competition. Most didn't think Tebow would ever play QB in the NFL. Well, most think Henry will not play running back in college due to his height and weight. Henry like Tebow wants to prove them all wrong.
|
Jag............... I usually love your posts, but it way to early to compare, or even put Henry in Tebow's realm of talent in college. Let's give Henry at least one year to prove himself in the college level before going Tebow level in praise........okay.

I was talking about Henry's feet not Tebows. Have you seen film of the other RB's in Henry's Alabama class?

Henry is a great talent. Kelvin Taylor is as well. From what I have seen from both players, if I had my choice between Taylor and Henry, I would select Taylor...and not only because he is a legacy.
I think Henry can make it as a power back and as a pure athlete, may be one of the best athletes we will ever see. That being said, I think the ceiling on Taylor as a running back is greater because of the unique skills he brings to the table (first step, elusiveness, and the potential to become much stronger in college). He is as shifty as his dad, and has a first step/acceleration akin to Emmitt. Great vision, which should only get better with experience.
In Christ forever,
Mike

E.g., see, Smith, Emmitt, NFL Hall of Fame.

The first thing Alabama needs to do is teach him how to pronounce Roll Tide.... I was getting tired of hearing Row Tad.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Henry gets to Alabama. They are loaded at RB, plus they have Altee Tenpenny coming in with Henry. He's the #2 RB on 247sports' list, right behind Tayler, and very similar to Taylor in terms of size and speed, though maybe a half step faster. Tyren Jones is another compact and very shifty back. Henry might be the best athlete in that class, but like GATORAZ said, he's probably only the third best RB. He could end up having an outstanding career, but he will have to fight his way up the depth chart. These kids have far more natural running skills. Henry will have to learn to run like a running back. It may take him two years to get in the thick of things.

True, but Tebow as just a RB was not my point. Size & strength.

AP polls. Central is now 2-2 working their way back up. Still does not change what Henry has run for vs big opponents. 39 straight 100 yd games ties a national record.

I'm not sure Henry is faster. I said with coaching in college Henry could be a very tough RB. Taylor has the elusive speed like last night when there was a loose snap and handoff, he burst to the side to make the defense miss.

If he keeps growing he will move to LB or DE. Everyone has said this including me. Anybody know how much Henry has grown in the last year or two?

Oh ok. No I have not seen film of the others. Like I said, Taylor has better upside in college at RB. Henry is a beast now, ala Wilder Jr.

at the Opening Henry ran a 4.52 Taylor ran a 4.63. I think Henry's time later in the day might have been sub 4.5

Henry is a freak of nature and a gross mismatch on the highschool level. Taylor is the more instinctive runner and has the sort of jump-cut you rarely see on that level.

“I can’t wait to get my commitment out the way,” said Taylor, who is currently 5-foot-11, 214 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds.
http://espn.go.com/colleges/florida/...ad-fred-taylor
Fred says the only area in which he had an advantage over his son is his 40 time. Kelvin is at 4.48 seconds -- still pretty fast, but just a step slower than the 4.28 Fred ran in high school
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/sp...k-henry/nSMST/
Though Taylor has two state championship rings, he may never have played against a back like Henry, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound five-star recruit who runs a 4.56 40-yard dash.

When I saw the big guys for Glades had to play both ways, I turned it off in the first half. Henry is too big for high school D's. Most anyhow. The D got to him, but couldn't tackle him.
At the next level, they tackle you where they get you. Henry will still have a size advantage, but he won't be bigger than eveyone on the D he is facing, like now.
Going to Bama or any of the I back teams in the SEC, is a good spot for him. He should be able to make the pro's no matter what at RB. Even if they make you Greg Jones, blocking back.
We are more than glad to have the RB's we are getting. Looking forward to seeing our guys play for the state of Florida.
