UNC Coach Roy Williams had surgery to remove a tumor from one of his kidneys. The severity of the tumor is not known, and he may need further surgery to remove a tumor from his other kidney.

UNC says they expect him to recover and coach the team this season.

Williams hasn't always been one of the most popular guys with Gator fans, but I would never wish him to have anything like this. Many prayers for a speedy recovery.

No would be an appropriate time for him to reflect on the error of his ways and apologize to the following:

1) gator nation
2) Ku compliance
3) nc Presbyterian student he got tossed.

Mrs. Gotham is a doctor (which actually makes her Dr. Gotham). She says that the most common tumors on the kidneys are not that dangerous because they don't metastasize (spread) very easily. Of course, the article said the lab work wouldn't come back for a week, and that's what will hold the answer. The fact that there may also be a tumor on the other kidney is not good.

Another question is whether this puts him at a higher risk for kidney failure and a need for dialysis. Apprarently, the removal of one kidney does put one at a higher risk. Dr. Gotham is not sure about the data on a partial removal.

Hope for Roy's speedy recovery. We need him courtside when we get to the East regional which is usually in their backyard and they normally get byes to get there. Then the media will get to see a good program put an old institution out of their NCAA problems, out of sight and out of mind. LOL

Going under the knife is always a chance for something to go wrong. Here's hoping Roy will get through this allright. I have a lot of Tar Heel fans up here and they believe in their man. I am pulling for him to have clean bill of health after this and maybe a another surgery. I am sure his family is hopeful and stressed.

Well said, Gotham. I'm not a fan of the guy, but I hope for a full recovery for him on this.
