He's a JUCO guy who was not highly regarded out of HS. Maybe his grades had something to do with that. If we get him I hope he's a baller.

a lot of those guys are not even properly evaluated by scouts because nobody is looking at them because of grades. I would not worry about that we all know how rankings can be wrong anyway.

To be honest g8r925, I'm not invested in their NFL careers. Don't get me wrong, I hope they all have great careers, but I'm not invested in the Buffalo Bills like I am the Gators. So to answer your question, it's frustrating to me when they don't play up to there potential as a Gator but go on to excel in the NFL. Will Hill and Denote are very good examples.

In fact, Easley, Floyd and Hunter haven't lived up to their billilng as well. When I watch Bama and LSU I see dominate playmakers on the field. I see men amounst boys. I see them putting a physical beating on the other team. In short, I see their playmakers dictating how the game will be played. Not seeing that with us right now. JMHO

Jelani was a 5 star according to Rivals. Maybe not according to Scout but if you are using their rankings I will doubt your judgement even more. I completely disagree on Matt Elam not being a dominant play maker. This is a guy who at the end of this year will be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick? Not really sure what you were hoping for in a 5 star safety, but in my eyes he has done everything expected of him and much more.

My definition of dominate is playmaker, game changer, momentem changer (i.e. honey badger type). If Jelani was a 5* if proves my point even more. Elam is solid in pass coverage, does a GREAT job of supporting the run and hustles his butt off. Dominate players in my eyes turn the ball over, runs over tacklers (Trent Richardson), stretches the defense (Justin Blackmon) etc. IMO Reggie Nelson and Major Wright were better and I'm pretty sure they weren't 5* (maybe Reggie was). I'm not down on Elam. He plays his butt off, but I want to see int's for TD's and hits that separates the ball from the receiver. And it's not just Matt, it's RoPo, Easley, Floyd etc. All these guys were 5* recruits and I have yet to see any of them play a DOMINATE game.

Damn gatorules, did you even watch football for the last 6-7 yrs?

Leak, Nelson, Spikes, Harvey and Hernandez were 5 stars. Without the 5 stars, we don't sniff a MNC in 06 or 08. We didn't have a 5 star bust except for maybe John Brown for all of the 00's. Just because the guys on the roster now aren't All Americans YET doesn't mean they won't be. They've all started games since the were TF. That's the definiton of a 5 star (and a light roster)

lol...I watched a few games here and there the last 6/7 years. You're making my point. The past few years our 5*'s haven't produced like they did from 06-10. BTW, I did acknowledge Spikes, Harvin, Tebow and Nelson as 5*'s that produced. Elam, Floyd, Powell, Hunter, Jenkins and Easley haven't come close to living up to their billing IMO. Janoris is an example of a playmaker that produced from 08-10.

So you're telling me that you believe the #1 HS defensive player in the nation has played dominating ball at UF?

I agree with Gatorules. The dominant players/playmakers we've had the last 10 years were Harvin, Tebow, Spikes, Hernandez, Maurkice Pouncy. A notch below would be Joe Haden, Janoris Jenkins, Ray McDonald, Harvey, Siler and probably a few more I can't think of. Right now Alabama has tons of guys like this which I believe is due more to Saban's unscrupulous tactics (i.e. oversigning and cutting players) than his coaching ability/talent evaluation. I also have a sneaking suspicion that their players ingest/inject something that ours don't. Whether it's legal or illegal I don't know, but it is hard to believe the players they recruit are that much bigger and stronger than the ones we do or that their strength program is that much superior to ours.

I believe all of our 5 star defenders in the past played their best ball their Jr and Sr seasons. Most weren't forced into action their TF year. Harvey and Dunlap dominated but not until their Jr yrs. 2 of ours now are just now playing their true position, and our 5* buck last year led the team in sacks his first year playing that position. I digress...

They're all busts.

I wonder how much the last two seasons of Meyer and transition to new staff has effected that. Don't know, just strikes me as unlikely all were misevaluated so widely.

Way to over react. I never said they were all busts. Actually, what I said and have implied is they are good players......just not dominate. BTW, Harvin was a dominate player as a freshman, Tebow won the Heisman as a sophomore, Nelson (JC transfer) was a beast the first time he stepped on the field as a sophomore, Pouncy started as freshman on the OL and his brother played on the DL as a freshman and Janoris started as a freshman. Other than those examples I agree with your statement that most players are better their Jr and Sr years.

That's why I specifically said defensive players, and compared them to other defensive players. It takes alot more time typically for LB's and DL to come into their own.
