True if you buy new. However, I'm assuming places like GameStop should start carrying used ones at that point.

Sadly, not likely. Blizzard's you must be logged in to play policy. Should effectively stop the used game from being worth anything, because the key for the game would be associated with someone else's Blizzard ID.

Forgot about that .. This is true. You'd think there'd be a black market for the sale of old numbers at that point

It's a bummer. I'm not terribly impressed with the game either. I'm about half way through act3.

Haven't lost any sleep to it, which is a pretty decent litmus test so....

Sadly I couldn't call myself a gamer if I didn't buy it though.

Decent twist to the storyline between Acts 3 and 4. I'm about halfway through Act 4 myself. The biggest improvement (and detraction) is the auction house. You can snag some sweet gear for your character early on and then sell it at a profit later.
