Searching for ... imbalance ?
Very perceptive post, I think, from nutrition scientist John Barban. The fitness industry is particularly about about promoting imbalance as a means for muscle growth. And so you have food-combinations, carb-cycling, eating surplus on workout days, deficit on rest days, high-carb/high-protein certain days, low-carb/high-fat other days, etc.
Key statement from Barban:
"There is no foundation for [these theories] - I think a large part of it is trying to 'explain away' the problems we all face in gaining muscle. Because after the initial burst it happens very, very slowly."

Read his Adonix Index and listen to the sales pitch for it and you would understand. He may have some good take away info, I just happen to think he is an insecure loser and a bit of a douche.

You mean personally ? I think he is BY FAR the most sensible dude out there on nutritional matters.
AND, he's a UF grad. Bigtime Gator fan.

He isn't a UF grad. He attended and dropped out.

You seem really down on the guy. As far as I'm concerned he may be an axe murderer and he's still the most sensible researcher on the web and it's really not even close. In the fitness industry, especially the nutrition side, the volume of quackery is overwhelming.

No not that down on him really. Just don't like him and wanted to correct you on his status as a gator. There are a lot more sane voices out there, unfortunately you need to dig through a lot of crap to find them. Barban works closely with Pilon and I think brad is the better of the two. And also probably the source of most of the nutrition info that barban is repeating.

Okay, you're not that down on him ... but you consider him a 'tool', 'an insecure loser' and 'a bit of a douche.' Seriously, did he get you drunk one night and ass-rape you ?
But to other matters, who are these 'saner voices' you have to dig to find ? I'd like to think that I've done a lot of digging. And do you like Pilon better because of his hair ?

OK that was really over the top of me. I shouldn't be judging someone I don't know, those were just the thoughts that ran through my head as I read through the Adonis Index and some of his posts on his website. For all I know he is a good guy now and some of the stories that he shared on his journey to where he is now are in his past.
And of course I prefer Pilon because of the hair, how can you not?
As far as fitness voices that I like I have started looking small, really small. And even then its not like are you going to agree with everything any one individual says. Like you have mentioned before Barban has a good take on nutrition and is way too involved when it comes to training. Then there are others who believe in simple training and complicated diets. I think you need to find the info that works for you even if you need to mix and match.

Gotcha. And for the record, FWIW, I consider Barban stronger on nutrition than on training. Wait, that's not entirely accurate. I don't even consider his training advice.
