Searching for ... imbalance ?
Very perceptive post, I think, from nutrition scientist John Barban. The fitness industry is particularly about about promoting imbalance as a means for muscle growth. And so you have food-combinations, carb-cycling, eating surplus on workout days, deficit on rest days, high-carb/high-protein certain days, low-carb/high-fat other days, etc.
Key statement from Barban:
"There is no foundation for [these theories] - I think a large part of it is trying to 'explain away' the problems we all face in gaining muscle. Because after the initial burst it happens very, very slowly."
