Default Help setting up a network printer

I just moved my office and switched internet providers (went from AT&T DSL to Cox Business via Cable) which necessitated me purchasing a router (Netgear 600) to go with their modem.

With my old network, i was able to plug my Konica Minolta 4690MF directly into the router via ethernet cable and see it on the network. I've done that now and i cannot see it and am not sure how to find it.

Went to the Add printer and tried the wizard but can't find it by browsing. Printed a report of printer and it gave me the IP address but still didn't help.

One computer is Windows 7 and one is XP.

Thank you in advance.

If the printer has an ip address then I am going to guess it is being assigned from the router and is not static. Why don't you try to ping the printer from both of the computers to see if you can get a reply.

Unless it's a really old printer you can usually pop the driver CD in and it will find the printer for you.

What failed ufbeta? Using the CD or trying to ping?

OK, let's try this:

Open a command prompt on both computers and type in ipconfig

Then write down the IP Address, the subnet mask, and the Default Gateway on both. Also post the IP Address of the computer and if you can get it the subnet mask and Default Gateway.

We need to determine if they are all on the same network

By the way if you are worried about posting any IP addresses on the board they should all be private addresses and you won't have anything to do with your outside address which anyone that tried to reach you would see. Those particular addresses are used over and over again when people are setting up networks so there should be no vulnerability or security issue. If you have any other concerns you can always drop me a pm.

It could be the printer is setup with a static ip address outside the range of the new router or you could have firewall software blocking the printer.

Thanks guys, got it. Apparently the new netgear router needed the installation of updated firmware before I could see the printer. As soon as I updated that, the printer was visible.

That was kind of what I was thinking but I should have thought about the firmware maybe needing updating. Main thing is he got it working.
