Eat like a caveman......
to lose weight

Researchers from UCSF say that their research has shown people on a diet of high protein and plenty of vegetables show dramatic health improvements, including weight loss without exercising profusely and lower blood pressure. In short it's the diet of our caveman ancestors thousands of years ago who were what is termed "Hunter Gathers".

Dr. White says that the constant physical activity that cavemen had to undertake to hunt and find food, not to mention cutting up animals or pounding grains or root vegetables to make the edible, using only very basic tools, kept them fit, lean, muscular and active. Their diet consisted of large amounts of lean meat, and basic vegetables. Fruits would have been highly seasonable and salt, pure sugar, and large amounts of carbohydrates in their diets pretty much impossible.

Read this earlier today and while I see no reason to go full paleo I definitely would rather stick to meat and veggies than becoming a Vegan or vegetarian.

Kid you not, i have a friend who said he gained weight on the Caveman Diet. Evidently, he opted for the gorging part of the Cavemen Diet while eschewing the calorie-burning, Mammoth hunting aspect of the caveman lifestyle.

The life of the caveman was undoubtedly nasty, brutish and short. That said, they were more robust than we are. Even their bones were larger and stronger. Don't know that that has much to do with diet. They found the skeleton of a Neanderthal woman who, they estimate, would have been 5-0 197. Basically, you wouldn't have wanted to mess with her. Also, an Ice Age aboriginal left tracks indicating that he would have been faster than Usain Bolt. We're not half the men we used to be.

Leaf, I agree with you. No need to go full bore but take away from the research and the article, EAT MORE REAL FOODS and less or no processed or instant foods
Dream, love it. LOL

I've never been strict paleo but definitely lean that way. I do eat carbs, but minimal amounts, do eat some refined sugar, etc. Otherwise, lots of lean protein, veggies, nuts & berries, and occasionally the still beating hearts of my enemies. For me it's a performance-based choice, as I find my paleo"esque" diet makes me feel generally lighter, faster, stronger, sharper. Everyone's different in that regard and I don't think any one nutrition plan is the be-all end-all, but this has worked for me the past couple years.

Bossa, I think you have the right mindset. Taking any of these plans to an extreme is probably unnecessary. I eat a lot more lean meats and veggies than I do pastas and breads. But I eat that way because I feel good eating that way and just like that food. Too many carbs do make me feel lethargic but I have yet to be able to gorge myself on Apples to the point of feeling that way.
Really the only way for me to have trouble with carbs is to go out of my way to eat them in their worst forms. Otherwise its all manageable.
Still is someone ever asked me to give up meat or give up carbs, carbs get the boot every time. I find more deficiencies in the vegetarian diet than in paleo.

I've started a new habit of taking whatever meat the rest of my family is having for dinner with rice or pasta and mixing it with romaine lettuce and two table spoons of light Caesar dressing. It's really satisfying. Finally working outside the house now, and hitting Panera, Chipotle and Pot Belly for lunch. I've worked the calorie counters on this chains' websites and figured out how to maximize protein and minimize carbs. I don't worry too much about fat. Every other day or so, I'll scramble four eggs with just one yolk.
