I don't reject out-of-hand the use of exercise machines, as some do, but what does it say about us if we can't exercise without watching TV or listening to blaring music ?

I only pay $29.99 a month(student rate) and they have plenty of stuff from classes to personal trainers. Plenty of Machines and free weights, tread mills with TV's etc.
They actually own two building across the street from each other(bought another gym out) so there is plenty of choices(the other gym also has more free weight stuff).
We also have 24 hour fitness and there's a local company that has a fairly big gym, its a 2 story building with tons of equipment plus a swimming pool, basketball courts etc and there's also 2 health clubs which have everything.
I just chose my gym because its the cheapest, its a brand new gym(opened 2 years ago), it 24 hours, and its less than a mile away.
I have taken my friends who have been at multiple gyms from college ones to the club ones to the bigger chain ones and they liked this one and said it was pretty good.
It's a small building but when it comes to weight lifting and exercise they seem to have everything you could need.
I'll try and get a picture sometime, they have these gyms all over the country.

Sounds like a good spot for the right money. I pay the same for my gym and definitely consider price as one of my top decision makers. Usually it goes price, location, amenities. I figure I dont need all that much anyway.

Have your trainees or others made this statement? I I haven't seen it anywhere on here. I do think listening to music helps but I dont need it, if I forget my mp3 player or the battery burns out its not like I stop working out. And TVs are much more of a cardio thing, when lifting weights its kind of hard to watch TV while you are checking yourself out in the mirror anyway, so I really don't have that problem.

I honestly can't think of anyone I'm working with who works out at a fitness center of this sort. But if I find out they're watching TV while working out ... I'm damn sure going to tack on a surcharge!
I do think there is something slightly squirrely and unnatural about cardio machines though. It's just weird.

Hi ennis07
For me best time to workout is early morning as morning exercise reduces the risk of heart attack by half and increase the strength of your heart and lungs. Oxygen inhaled results great amount of energy especially for our joints. Morning exercise results in early and better sleep also.

I prefer to work out in the mornings, around 8am-ish. Problem is, I suffer from bouts of insomnia so I wind up training around 5pm. I don't think it matters, just whatever works for you. At the end of the day it's about getting in there and working out hard.

Regardless the studies, the best time for you to workout is the time you'll workout.
And that is not a tautology.

Between 3:30 and 4:00, when all the hot young school teachers get to the gym. Could be a little earlier or later, depending on school hours in your district. It's good to get your lifting done before the 9-5 people get there.
