spay/neutering service fees range from $200-$450, but the vet will also try to coerce you into submitting to a bevy of unnecessary vaccinations so that they can make an extra buck. Vaccinations are VOLUNTARY, except for the rabies vaccination. It doesn't make sense anyway to vaccinate simultaneous with an operation because vaccinations suppress the immune system at the time your animal needs it most to heal. Every vet will refuse to help your pet unless you agree to their battery of vaccines, which is not for the purpose of helping your animal but for the purpose of making money (if they wanted to help your animal, the vet would perform the service you are requesting; instead, they refuse all treatment for your pet). Unfortunately, the vet does not advise you that vaccines are voluntary and that vaccines don't even take effect (provide immunization protection ... if at all) until two weeks or more afterwords. So many dysfunctional vet-patient-pet relationships out there, and so very little alternatives.
Fortunately, in Alachua County, we have
No More Homeless Pets, a non-profit spay/neuter service that charges a flat rate of $60. Proof of rabies vaccination is required or they'll have to administer it ($6). They advise of the other ELECTIVE vaccinations that are available if you want, all similarly reasonably priced. I recently had my dog spayed there and they treated my animal better than any vet I've ever been to. And the price was right!
