Default the understating of macklin

i think billy might have taken a page from urban with his "expectations" of vernon.
macklin is tons better than billy let on. or at least more so than i expected from what billy said pre-season. very athletic, good hands, decent passer, good moves, fun stuff.

I like the way he throws it down. He punishes the rim and dunks with authority. I love it.

He seems like a confident player who's enjoying himself.

I had high hopes for him and he seems to play very well. I think his hands aren't great, but better than what I expected after hearing he has no hands at all.

I think most big men have a bit of a problem with hands...but the biggest shock is his footwork around the basket. It's pretty good. I also like his attitude of slamming it when he gets the chance.

His offensive game is a lot better than I expected. He also affects a lot of shots down low, even if he doesn't stuff his stat line with blocked shots. We haven't had a defensive presence like him inside since the championship teams.

I was just going to come on here and post the same thing. He moves well without the ball, including on the break. Very pleasantly surprised.

I think the most understated part of his game is how good of a passer he is. He has really good vision for a big man and has made some passes underneath that I found to be very impressive.

I love the way he runs the floor and seems to have a go to move down in the paint with that little jump hook.

He is certainly one of the reasons we're off to such a good start. Our frontcourt is really coming to play this year.

He seemed a little tentative in the first few games, but now is playing physical and with confidence.

I guess that was the rust. It had been a couple of years since he'd been in an actual game.

Very true. His passing was very effective against Michigan State and especially against Rutgers.

G8rGuy, I know what you mean when you say he has really good vision for a big man but........ he is so tall that no one is blocking his vision!

Well, Macklin looked rusty and slow the first couple of exhibition games, which Donovan expected and I think that is why he downplayed what the kid could bring to the table. But anyone who followed him as a prep knows just how long, athletic, and skilled Macklin was and is. He is getting more comfortable with each game.

I'm not at all suprised by Macklin's production. Anyone whos 6'10 240 with elite athleticism has the chance to be a difference maker as long as they have a decent attitude/work ethic.

With his tools I'm looking forward to him taking control of the paint, he's not there yet. I know that's a subjective opinion.

That's the thing: Macklin isn't dominating, but his presence inside has made a world of difference for this team. Imagine how good this team could be in March when he's playing even closer to his full potential (and UF is hitting 3s more consistently).
