Default Internet/WiFi Cafe

I wanted to see if any Gators out there have had any experiences running or using an internet cafe here in the US.

I was putting together a business plan for one and wanted to see if anyone could offer advice on doing thing in a smaller market.

Hopefully, some folks that frequent this forum can give some advice. You might want to post in the Gator Insider Business/Professionals forum as well.

Best of luck!

With just about every coffee shop, bookstore, airport, and sandwich shop now offering wifi either through a paid service or for free I dont know how large the market still is for an Internet specific cafe. If I am thinking of the right thing.

Yeah, just my opinion, but I only see that kind of thing succeeding in a large, metropolitan center like NY, Chicago, etc. It doesn't seem like it would be successful in a place where people would have to drive to get to it. I've seen them all over Europe, but of course, you've got people walking everywhere plus Americans that need to reconnect. I could be completely wrong though and you may be the next Ray Crock of WiFi.

Is there a website to find a Wifi spot(albeit free or not) anywhere you are travelling to?

There are many sites on the web that provide information for WiFi sites. I don’t know of any that are really great. The ones I used to use years ago were based on wardriving and don’t seem to provide much information.

The best site I could find in a few minutes of random and ineffective searching was http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/ that shows the WiFi hotspots in Gainesville here. None of the sites I have seen in my search seemed to have nearly as many sites that actually exist.

As a point of minor humor I love that a low-end motel in Perry has a sign by the road that advertises WiFye. This must be a country variant of WiFi.

I suspect other folks will offer some better sites for finding wireless access.
