Default Plumbing repair question

A buddy of mine discovered a water leak when he got home tonight. A copper supply pipe under the vanity in a bathroom has a pin hole leak in it. The hole is about an eighth or quarter inch above the concrete foundation. I have used fiberglass tape to repair a leak before, but this may be too close to the foundation to get adequate coverage. Any ideas for a "do it yourself repair?"

Repipe....lol seriously once you start getting pin holes in copper it is only a matter of time.

If you don't solder and are looking for a quick fix, I have seen a piece of rubber hose and an automotive hose clamp last for years.

I'm with 51. Most of the plumbing comes into my house through the ceiling of a downstairs room over about 8 years I had about 6 or 7 pinhole leaks pop up that I repaired with the hose clamp and rubber hose method. However after a joint or two starting leaking, I finally had to replace all the pipes. From what I could tell, once the pinholes start, you will get more. If you have the right opportunity, you could replace with PVC, or just put copper back in. If it's in a difficult place, a plumber might be the best call rather than chance making anything worse.

I wouldnt recommend PVC...I think you might mean CPVC which is the better choice and very easy to work with.

Yup CPVC is the way to go. About 10 years ago I was getting a lot of leaks in the old copper in my house, I had a plumber friend of mine help me run CPVC through my entire house. We ran the pipes through the attic and I haven't had a leak since. I think it cost me around $1,200. I think it was like $700 for the material and I gave my buddy $500 for his days work. He did all the work, I just supervised and lent a hand when needed.

I haven't seen copper used in residential construction in 15 years, that should tell you a thing or two about copper.
