Default Most Important Remaining Uncommitted

OK, first, falsely assuming that none of the committed will decommit (what an absurd thing to say, almost every year, at least one decommits, and sometimes, there are a lot, like last year, when Reid, Teague, Richardson and Kasa all decommitted toward the end of the process). Anyway, after having make that absurd assumption, I order the importance of the remaining uncommitted and desired as followings.

Before critiquing this order, you must realize that after 40 some years of observing football competition at all levels (from 10 year olds to the Pros), I have come to clearly realize that the OLine and DLine are far and away the most important places to have quality. Quality offensive backs get nowhere without a quality OLine in front of them, and Quality defensive backs and LBs spend all of their time tacking escaped runners rather than guarding WRs if the defensive line fails.

Second, you win Championships with Defense, not with Offense, so I have a clear preference for defensive players, and, over the past two years, the Gators have been very thin in recruiting defensive players, with a total of only 14 in the 2008 and 2009 classes. Good defense also requires a good kicking game, and next year, the Gator punter will be a senior, and PK, a junior.

1 - Powell, or OO, or Stripling or Marks, etc... or two of these (preferred).

2 - Green, or Linder, or Henderson, or two of these (preferred).

3 - Shariff, or another DT

4 - Luc or Hicks or both, or someone else at LB

5 - Joyner, Shaw, Riggs, Jefferson Riley, or any two of these

6 - Dunkley, Stills, or one of the others, perhaps two of these

7 - Hagerup - it is really useful to have your punter spend a year on the team before he is forced to punt in competition.

Now, realizing that there are 17 committed, and a probable max of 26, that leaves 9 remaining slots (perhaps 10 for a +1). So, probably only 2, or perhaps 3 of the positions mentioned allow for 2 additional commits. Of course, we must assume at least 1 and probably 2 decommits before signing day, so that would allow 3 or 4 with 2 (also, depending, of course, where the decommits occur).

You say we've been very thin in recruting on the defensive side of the ball last two years. I count a total of 19 not 14, 12 in 2008 (out of 22 total) and 7 in 2009 (out of 16 total). How different could the numbers be? Seems pretty balanced to me.

I'm right there with you, but I would throw in QB as well.

Give me a great OL, DL, and QB and I'll be happy to let the rest of the chips fall where they may.

Based upon need, Powell is probably our most important guy because we are thin at DE. We are pretty stocked at DT and OL for now, so I'd make Shaw # 2 at CB.

In general, I agree with what you are saying about the lines being so important but the 2009 class addressed the needs on offensive line (got 5 OL last year) and I don't think it is that high of a priority this year! We desparately need more play makers at wide receiver next year as well as punt/kickoff returner and rebuilding depth on defense. With 17 commitments already (9 more commitments for a possible 26), the order of recruiting priority remaining I think are the following:

1. DE (need 4 total; require 2 more!): Powell , OO (or someone else)
2. RB (1; done!)
2. WR (need 5; redshirt 2-3; require 3 more!): Dunkley, Stills, McCarthy or
Green
3. Athlete (for punt/kickoff returner, "percy" position; require 1 more!): Joyner
4. DB (3 CB; 3 Safeties - some converted to LB! need 1 more!): Shaw
5. LB (2-3; require 1 more!): Luc
6. DT (2; require 1 more!): Shariff or someone else
7. OL (req 1 more): Henderson or someone else!

Total: 10

I would say that Powell, hicks, luc, shaw, fulton on D
Chaz Green, Powell, Dunkley, stills on O

What is even better is the thought that Fulton can go either way at slot or DB and be effective. I also think Dorsey can as well with his 4.25 speed, and Elam.

What interest me is the thought of Powell at TE, he would be the only way to improve on hernandez. Not sure if UM is looking at him there but I think that would be perfect for the run game as a blocker, also for TE recieving and a great push in the middle on special teams.

LUC and Hicks together IMO are like a Spikes/ Stamper duo all over again, I would pay to see them both sign.

I would also love to see S henderson fill in at line with the recruits from last year that would give us a great line to come team him with Chaz, robey, and pouncies and Powell at TE and Danm we are stout up front. With Demps, rainey, moody, and Mack running behind them we could redifine a power ru game.

D. Thompson Powell nixon pouncy pouncy henderson Hurt Hines
Chaz Orr
Debose
Gillislee
Brantley
Burton (in 06 Tebow roll)

Demps Moody
Rainey Mack B

Depending on the set this is the options on O we could see

On D

Wright/Black/hill

Haden Jenkins
Shaw Fulton

J. Jenkins Bostic AJ Jones
Luc Beal

Powell Marsh Hunter J. Howard

Too many danm options to list accurate, but man we can be so very special.

What does everyone think? I know it is not spot on accurate, I just wanted to see all the names on paper. Folks may leave or whatever. Just look at the talent, depth, and options. I left off so many names of excellent players. All I can say is WOW we could be loaded beyond believe.

What I hope we end up with (I'll list 11 which would give us the maximum).

Ronald Powell
Chris Dunkley
Jeff Luc
Jordan Hicks
Shariff Floyd
Owamagbe Odighizuwa
Joshua Shaw
Chaz Green
Cody Riggs
Lamarcus Joyner-Percy Position
Da'Rick Rogers (Still holding out hope that we can flip him or at least are trying)

Since Rogers is very unlikely, one of Stills/Green/McCartney would be my more realistic replacement for Rogers.

I have been hearing that Floyd is a silent to osu, so if that is true, my replacements for him would be to try and flip one of either Garrison Smith from uga, Louis Nix from miami, or Darious Cummings from fsu.

I have also read that if we land Shaw, that we are basically out of it for Fulton. This is basically the only reason I didn't list him. He would be a sweet get if we could somehow land him.

Tony Jefferson IMO would be a great pickup for us as well. I could have easily put him on my list.
