Default Spurrier Coming Back in 2010!

Plus, he'll be calling plays from now on and getting more involved in the offense during the game. He's under big pressure from fans to change things after these losses.

I don't think it is fair to draw that conclusion. If Spurrier cared only about the money, he would have squeezed the Redskins much harder than he did when he left. I think he wants to build a winner at South Carolina, wants to win the SEC. He has recruited some decent talent, and may feel he has a shot in the next few years.

BS!

They still have to overcome not knowing how to finish. At first, they couldn't finish games but Coach Spurrier got them past that. The last 2-years, they were in position for 10-2 or 9-3 seasons but still can't finish a season. He will get them past that too . . . then watch out!

Coach Spurrier is as competitive as they come. To suggest he's only coaching for a paycheck is an unwarranted cheap shot.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Steve Spurrier says he'll be back in the middle of South Carolina's playcalling and back on the Gamecocks' sidelines next season.

Spurrier said Tuesday that he'll increase his playcalling role down the stretch and won't let the potential of another frustrating finish -- the Gamecocks (6-4, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) have lost two straight with No. 1 Florida and Clemson left -- lead him to leave the Gamecocks after the season.

"Obviously, the president and the AD and all that decides on who coaches," Spurrier said. "But hopefully we've got some guys that are really going to help us on the way. We have a good coaching staff here and so forth.

"Again, I hope and plan to go three or four more years," said Spurrier, 64. "We'll see what happens."

Under pressure from USCe fans to change things? Yeah, they've got a lot of leverage.

He comes out and says he'll "be calling plays and be more involved in the offense" EVERY year.

ET, do you ever wonder why USCe doesn't finish out the regular season? It has little to do with Spurrier or the players.

Year----------------First Six Games--------------Last Six

2000..............................5-1.............................2-3
2001..............................5-1.............................3-2
2002..............................4-2.............................1-5
2003..............................4-2.............................1-5
2004..............................4-2.............................2-3
2005..............................3-3.............................3-2
2006..............................4-2.............................3-3
2007..............................5-1.............................1-5
2008..............................4-2.............................3-3
2009..............................5-1.............................1-5*

Total.............................43-17 (.717).................20-35 (.364)

* Florida and Clemson will be heavily favored, so this is an educated guess.

Spurrier didn't get them ready to go 10-2 any more than Holtz did. The reason for the late season swoons have nothing to do with the Gamecocks.

USCe's last three opponents are:

Tennessee............2-8
Florida.................1-8
Clemson...............2-7
Arkansas..............4-6

Total....................9-29 (soon to be 9-31, in all likelihood).

A 9-31 record is a .225 winning percentage. That is the reason why USCe folds late in the year. So if Spurrier is going to get USCe "past that" as well, he is going to have to beat Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida and Clemson more often. He's had five years, and still haven't gotten over that hump. Those teams pretty much own the Gamecocks, who beat them only when they are down.

It's amazing that he throws his own son under the bus. Who can he blame for his play calling from 2005 through 2008, when USCe averaged 77th in the nation in total offense?

Think about this for a moment. Spurrier currently has the 68th ranked offense in the nation, after being there for five years.

Dan Mullen, who so many Gator fans raked over the coals while he was here, inherited a Miss State team that AVERAGED 110th a year in offense for the last three seasons, and his total offense is ranked 57th!!

Houston Nutt inherited an Ole Miss team that averaged 99th in offense the previous four years, and turned in offenses of 29th and 51st. And it wasn't all because of Jevan Snead, either. Snead (138.7) isn't THAT much better than Garcia (122.9). This year, Garcia (126.5) is BETTER than Snead (123.4).

Why, Steve?

Ticket prices have went up, booster fees have went up, AD also started PSL's this year.. I'd say they have leverage if they don't show up.. the fans will get tired of paying all that money to see a team choke. PSL's at South Carolina?? Seriously?? what a screw job.. Their fans are pretty hardcore, but my bet is that this will be the limit. I doubt Spurrier lasts 3 years there, if they keep sliding..

Rumor is if Spurrier loses these next two games and they don't make it to a bowl.. the AD will ask him to leave, so he can hire Patterson from TCU.. Patterson and the AD are good friends, and hired Patterson at TCU..

They will lose their next two games..

Patterson would be a great hire for USC, but I don't know why Patterson would be in any rush to go there. USCe is a dead end. He should hold out for a better job.

How does this constitute throwing his son under the bus?? You can hate SOS all you want, but it doesn't validate this nonsense... The reasons for SOS's struggle at USCe is well documented here... So, your ranting is pretty irrelevant

MAJ, it's odd--- SOS brought UF to the top & Zook almost ruined that.... Your obsessive hate/love behavior is a little mixed up there--- no?!?

2010 will be the make or brake year for SOS at USCe.

It's the 1st time where its pretty much setup for USCe---. They will finally have an established talented QB, they will return something like 18 of 22 starters & 38 of the 44 2-deep with a favorable home schedule.

Things look to be in place for SOS & USCe in 2010... If they don't get it done next year, it wont happen under SOS.

FACT: Spurrier, Jr. was calling the plays. FACT: Spurrier, Sr. said he will start calling the plays AGAIN. CONCLUSION: My son ain't cutting it. He said it publicly.

The demographics of the state of Florida had as much to do with Florida's rise as Spurrier did. Do you seriously think Galen Hall, with a stocked, experienced team and a level playing field, would only win 6-7 games a year? Go see 1984 and 1985 to see what Galen did with equal talent and no sanctions.

And Zook wasn't close to ruining anything. 22 of 24 starters of the 2006 team were Zook recruits. Get a grip. I don't hate Spurrier (I admire him as a man of integrity), but I don't smoke his pole with hero worship, either, like you and most of the Gator nation.

On Florida boards, Spurrier's problems have everything to do with everything EXCEPT for Spurrier. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault, just as it was here at Florida. Sooner or later, Spurrier is going to have to take the blame for his putrid offenses.

They will do what they do every year: Start the season 6-1, then fall apart, losing to Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida and Clemson.

As for coaching, I think Meyer would win 9-10 games a year in three years if he took over the Gamecocks. Meyer is a complete coach who understands CFB as it is played today. They need to get someone like Skip Holtz. His ECU teams could beat USCe, with worse talent.
