Take FB as an example (probably bad, but here goes anyway). Tebow doesn't know everything and doesn't gameplan on the ultimate scale or make the final go/no-go decisions on 4th down (we'd always go if it was up to TT). Does that mean he wouldn't understand enough to one day be an effective AD? Certainly would provide a good knowledge base to ask advisers the right questions. Being in and part of the system is very valuable even if you're not at the top.

Sure experience in FB might make Tebow a good head coach
someday. That's the key word. But, he's not going to be prepared to be a HC if he stops playing for 20 years, never serves as a coordinator or assistant, but assumes the role of head coach in the NFL. Being a Lt. might give you some knowledge of the inner workings of the military, but it doesn't automatically qualify you to be a general or head up the entire military.
