Thumbs up Spurrier said he pulls for the Gators

"I pull for the Gators, sure,'' said Spurrier, who also won the 1966 Heisman as the UF quarterback. "Almost all their games are on TV. And we're usually a night team, we've played eight night games of our 10. So we get to see a half or so. Of course we watch all of the SEC teams, especially the ones we're going to play in the future.''- Florida Today

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, You just know he would love to derail the Gator train Saturday and restore some of his prestige.

They have both done special things at Florida. Both should be appreciated equally. South Carolina playing Florida tough should not come as a surprise either considering Spurrier always gets them ramped up to play.

Well, considering that the last time we played USCe, we smashed them 56-6, I'm not too worried about the Gamecocks being "ramped up" for this game.

I think the OBC does enjoy UF doing well, it is just that Meyer is doing so well that he threatens to really dwarf Spurrier's legacy.

Coach Spurrier is just an ultra competitive guy just like most athletes and coaches, so no matter how much he loves the Gators, nothing would make him happier than to beat Florida this Saturday. It has nothing to do with Urban's success.

I can remember a story about Spurrier playing ping pong back when he was coaching here, and he dove for the ball and ended hurting himself and having to have surgery. No matter what he is doing, he wants to WIN!! I just don't think he has the horses to get it done against this Gator team.

At this point style points don't really matter as long as we keep winning - so on that basis (we keep winning I wouldn't mind seeing the OBC have a decent game against us. No - not a close game - enough of those already this year - but they could get a couple TD drives for example (maybe 1 for our 3)...

The OBC will always maintain a special place in the hearts of true Gators!

Exactly. SOS is smart enough to know that someone would come along and build upon what he accomplished just as he built upon what Pell accomplished. All three took us to new heights. Though it's hard to fathom right now with the success that UM has had to date, there will be someone in the future, albeit hopefully in the distant future, that will follow him and build upon what he accomplishes. Deep down SOS is a Gator and will always pull for them from a personal aspect. His business side holds a different view I'm sure.

As he builds up more losses, Spurrier probably kicks himself each morning for leaving the best college job in america: the U of F!

*shrug* Maybe it's better we didn't have a Bowden-type situation down the road.

^Yea, would hate to have Spurrier's legacy ruined like that. Course, since I don't respect Bowden all that much, I'm glad he's leaving what remains of his reputation in tatters.

SOS is a Gator through and through and when he retires from South Carolina, he will take his deserved place of honor here at Florida. Something tells me that for as competitive as both him and Urban are...Urban will welcome Spurrier back every chance he gets--and Spurrier will be glad to be around Florida football again.

(note: not saying he'll be coaching or doing much, but he'll be around to comment on games and resume watching us full-time).

Spurrier would make a good golf coach, except for the visor tossing part.

I am glad Spurrier left when he felt he had done what he could at UF. Rather than hang around just to add wins, see Bowden debacle.

many of those points came from their self-destruction.

I'm not so sure. He had an itch, he scratched it, got paid quite a few million for the scratch, and now he's still making a few million a year doing something he loves to do. I doubt that he has any major regrets. Not just because of the money but because he wanted to try the NFL knowing it was a risk but he went for it anyhow. I've taken a few chances in my life that didn't work out as well as I hoped but I'll always be glad I at least tried.

As I recall, all he got was a black eye, which is an odd sort of injury when diving for something. He got the "ping-pong" black eye at Jeremy Foley's house, so a lot of us sort of put two and two together.
