Gators and Friends in Florida and on the Gulf Coast need to pay attention to news about this strorm. True, the Summer months of July, August and September are usually the months of concern for Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, it has happened in the past that in November they can be a problem.

Hurricane Ida - 1:00 P.M. Sunday 11.8.2009

Cat 2 Hurricane
110 mph Winds
21.7 North Latitude

November 9. Wow.

Luckily the Gulf temps are cool. Hopefully it weakens before it hits land.

SUPPOSED to get sheared off and be mostly a rain event. Just don't want it to mess up my Gator game.

I recall storms in November aiming elsewhere, but don't recall being threatened here along the coast this late before. I commented to my wife this afternoon, it is so odd watching The Weather Channel seeing alerts and updates about us here being under a hurricane watch--and then when it breaks to a commercial, we get to see holiday commercials about Christmas. Really odd.

And go Southern living!!! Can't beat the smell of the ocean, the mossies (mosquitos) and the ability to bring a friend a beer. Made Gumbo the other night and can't wait to come home for some deep fried Mullet!!! Pensacola will be alright...just don't mess with our seafood and southern lifestyle!!! It's been pretty cool at night even as far south as Tampa. That will wreak havoc on a hurricane. I expect it will generate massive rain but not much else. Hopefully it will head east and give Atlanta some much needed rain.

Not me.

I live right here near Tallahassee in a small town called Quincy in the neighboring county, and in late November, 1986, Hurricane Kate hit us with 90 - 100 mph winds, passing directly over Gadsden Co. We were out of power for about 6 - 7 days.

I believe hurricane season officially ends November 20, so it not out of bounds, so to speak.

For what it is worth....I just got back from the store where I got my night ritual, coffee and cappacino, or cappacoffee if you will. Coming up to the store, I noticed probably 20-25 cars waiting for gas!! First thought was they must have dropped gas prices by 50 cents for something like this....and it hit me. The "panic" has already slightly begun. Getting their gas for when--"power goes out...gas shortages...generator fuel...etc". I can understand watching the storm to see what happens, but to be loading up in a near panic state already?? I guess Ivan back in 04 really scared the bejesus out of folks around here, so I can kinda understand...almost.

Needless to say, I took a detour back home just to see if it was isolated or if other gas stations were lining up and sure enough--lines are forming here in Pensacola for gas already. So anyone out there who may just need some gas in the next few days, you might want to consider they could run low due to panic filling--not due to a storm hit or power outage. I have been through enough storms over the years to know anything is possible, but this one should be little more than a rain event and not enough damage to warrant leaving town or pure panic setting in. This is NOT going to be an Ivan or Katrina or anything even remotely close.

Anyway--anyone up in the panhandle may consider gas before the stations run out if they even do.
