Full Class
Wow, 6 DTs. We finally are going to play with close to 85 scholarship players.
Does anyone have the break down of how many slots we had open with transfers, early draft entrants, and graduates?
Did I mention that we signed 6 DTs?

I like the 6 DT's too. I think Riles and Ivie will be hybrid players like Easley. The can play outside or inside depending on what D Durkin has them in.

I'm not sure Riles has the quicks to play end. But I definitely think Ivie and Bostwick can do it.

6 D linemen, 6 O linemen. Line of scrimmage league. We will be a force to be reckoned with for the next two years at least on both lines. We will have to be more selective with our 2014 class and get great quality recruits as right now we can take 15. Attrition will give us a few more spots, and Roberson will leave early.

As well as 2 DT recruits that played together this year at CC, who one of them, by the way, played with another DT that's already on the team. 2 OTs that started in D1 schools. 3 DTs that played ball together (one of which we beat out Bama for his services), and another one that chose us over scUM and Bama. Muschamp is doing a great job

I think we will see more attrition this year and we will sign closer to 25 next year than to 15. That is the nature of a full roster. Kids want to play. With a full roster we will have a few more of them than usual who realize they need to go elsewhere to be starters or meaningful backups.
And with a full roster is is also easier for Muschamp and Co. to tell kids who don't put out 100% every day that they should go elsewhere. (I'm not against "forced attrition" when it is because kids aren't giving it all.)

This staff did a great job of providing instant depth across the line of scrimmage from the JUCO ranks (Cummings and Reed at DT, and Brown across the OL), and you may as well consider Moore and Garcia JUCO prospects; only better because both are proven at the division one level. So, almost half of the fourteen prospects brought in across the line of scrimmage will be counted on to provide depth immediately.
There's also plenty of high school talent to build around for the next few years. Great job by Muschamp and co. for blending in players who can contribute immedaitely, and also signing players who will develop over time.

We are at 81 which is probably as good as it gets. Without Ronald Powell and the injured OL most of us didn't know about, we started 12 with 75 ship players, not counting the two walkons that had ships.
It's nice to be closer to 85 and have the players be Muschamp players. Muschamp said in his NSD presser that the roster was back to where it should be. That was before the TE/OL project and getting one of the best punters in the nation.
Man down, man up will be easier this season.

I think the latest number was 33 open slots. After getting those last 2 recruits our class is up to 30. So I would assume that puts us at 82 out of the 85 roster spots taken.
Also looking ahead to 2014, this class of 30 had 8 EEs, so technically the 2014 class will only have 22 members counted against it meaning next year we could count 3 EEs back and sign 28 (if we're under the overall cap of 85 of course).

I think we only have 17 available. Well have more next year due to injuries, transfers, etc.

Valentine will be the perfect compliment to this group in next year's class. I'm sure the staff will try and sign at least one more, but if we keep Valentine we probably don't have to swing for the fences on the 2nd.

Cummings and Reed played JUCO together in the 12 season.
Cummings spent one year at FSU. He and Jacobs didn't play JUCO together. Cummings has three years to play two years.
Reed spent one year in prep school which is why he has 4 years to play 3 years.
Jacobs spent two years at JUCO. He has 3 years to play 2 years.
To my knowledge, this is the first time all three have been on the same team even though they all came from the same Mississippi JUCO.

We desperately needed those numbers at tackle. The good thing is that many of kids are versatile. Ivie, Riles, Cummings, and Reed could all play strongside end as needed. Muschamp has gone on record saying he likes a big guy over there who can leverage the ball for you and force runs back inside, so much that he might even keep Easley there.

I mentioned a few months ago that I was really impressed with how Muschamp ad-libbed and recovered from some of last year's recruiting misses. I'm not usually a huge fan of JUCO guys, but we needed some instant impact players at positions where that's not usually what you get from recruiting.
Especially along the offensive line. We missed out on a lot of guys last year, but Muschamp really made up for that with Garcia and Moore. Game out the 2013 offensive line without those two, and it'll be pretty clear how important they were.
Muschamp missed on some guys in 2012, but the reality is every coach is going to make mistakes or is just going to have some things that don't work out. The measure of a coach is how he responds in those moments, and Muschamp recovered well.

Definitely working on a line of scrimmage team. That along with some tom notch db's and top noth rb's should work out great for us. Talking about owning the 4th qrtr!!!!
