Well that wasn't great...
Not sure if expectations were raised to high by beating up on names like Wisconsin and FSU or if the last two big games were a fluke. That being said thoughts of a number 1 and likely a number 2 seed are on life support. Not enough good teams in the SEC to get quality wins against. Plenty of time to turn it around but definitely have ratcheted down the expectations a bit.

My expectations are gone. From what I have seen against the good teams we have played tells me we are a long ways from championship material. KSU dominated us tonight.

Yeah but to be fair, out of the 4 teams to make the elite eight the past two tourneys (Florida, Kentucky, Duke, UNC), Florida is not the only team to struggle this season.

KSU is a better team than pretty much everyone here gives them credit for. They are definitely a tourney team and on par with the top half of our league.
To think that we could lose to them on the road was not a stretch.

Your expecations were probably too high before. Good news is they're surely too low right now. Its just one game. In December.
No excuse for Young not getting a touch on every single possesion in the 2nd half though.

We did have a thread here asking for predictions about our chances of sweeping the league this season. I thought it was unrealistic and in a way, highly disrespectful for our conference.
We're still a good team that has a chance at another deep NCAA run. However, to expect them to do what the 04's couldn't do (basically beat everyone) was very unrealistic.

It wasn't disrespectful, it was simply a thread to get some talk going.

Basically, it inferred that because the rest of the league stunk, we could steamroll through it.
We're going to find out in January and February that not every team in the SEC sucks.

Don't know what happened tonight. They seemed to make everything and we couldn't even make free throws. I think Boynton at PG is not working, especially when Wilbekin is in the game and playing SG. We should have pounded the ball into Young as much as we could. We struggled with chasing them around all night in their motion offense and their rebounding was much better than ours.

People will have to come to the realization we are just an average team right now.
We will not win the SEC like this. Those who thought we'd breeze through the conference better hope things turn around. Mizzou is way better than us.

We lost by a combined 7 points in two VERY difficult road environments. One game we literally gave away.... the other we played a poorly as we have all season, and still had chances to win.
This is FAR better than an average team.

We didn't even compete in the first half. I was worried about being on the road again, getting mugged, but being out muscled, that was a real eye opener. I guess teams that won't guard us or they are just terrible, we have a chance on the road, but that isn't going to happen. We gave K state a great boost for their season and once again Billy played all kinds of weird combinations of players of which he always does when things aren't working which just helps the other team and not switching from the zone until they had a double digit lead. I don't think Scottie is a great pg but he is the best we got. He got more aggressive in the second half and this helped. Kenny right now is not helping this team. Mike can score but tonight was on the floor most of the time, again shooting whenever he has a little room. He is too thin to be a small forward, they just pushed him around. This is when I hate the 3 guard offense.
Overall, we just showed up in the first half and got in a hole. The second half we competed. But we just couldn't buy a shot from 3 pt land. We need offensive help and a pg that can control the game. Our inside game got taken to the woodshed. They should be embarrassed. Patrick hit a couple at the end, but in the first half didn't get position and couldn't even get close.
Right now if we don't get some of these problems worked out, an early exit in the NCAA tournament is in the cards.

Whatever. Games like tonight worry me. Doesn't sit well in me when I watch my team look helpless out there

Pretty much sums it up. Looking at the box score, we competed fine on defense. Our defense pretty much kept us in the game. However, defense isn't going to bail us out when we're taking bad shots and not executing on offense. We weren't able to get much in the way of spacing and all three of our guards started taking it to the basket and getting rejected by their big.
One of our three guards is going to have to step and be able to run the show for the majority of the time. I'm pretty sure that Scottie is the only one with the mindset to do this, so I sure hope he can do it.
