I can attest to his method of weight loss as well, although not nearly to that degree. Obviously calories in vs out is the biggest but you don't have to give up stuff you like, it's so much easier to keep track of your calories if you eat the same thing all the time, slipping up once leads to more slip ups and being fat sucks.

Reading his article it seems that for him eating the stuff he likes is a slippery slope that led to overeating. And at least for him would lead him right back to obesity. Now I am a big proponent of not giving up the foods you like as I am the exact opposite, if I restrict myself from the things I like for too long I go on binges where I tear through it and any progress is lost. So, I prefer to use strategies that allow me to eat everything I like so long as I am reasonable about how much and how often.
Mentally this is much better to as I never feel bad about anything I eat.
