ECEGator has a spectacular aura about
Default Learning the intricacies and mechanics of football

I've watched football for years and I'm familiar with the rules and basics of the game but I have never actually played the game other than backyard pick up games with friends.

I usually stick around the game threads on game days and marvel at the play by play analysis that some of you guys give. I would LOVE to be able to follow the games at the level of detail and understanding that some of you guys do.

Can anyone recommend a resource (book, online, etc) that will help me get aquainted with things like formations, packages, plays, what to look for, etc.? I think I would enjoy the game even more if I had a grasp on this stuff. One thing I've picked up on is that there is alot of strategy involved in football and I'd like to be able to follow along.

I hear guys rattling off words like "seam route", "corner blitz", "checking off receivers", "telegraphing", "jet sweep", "loading the box", etc. and I would love to be able to recognize all of these things during the game and appreciate their significance.

Is this even possible for someone who has never played the sport at the highschool or collegiate level?

Thanks
