Tucker now up to AA as well. The rest of his season will be interesting to watch. AA is usually the cutoff where we find out if somebody is a legimate prospect.

Former Gator Anthony DeSclafani Promoted To Major Leagues By Miami Marlins

Former Gator right-hander Anthony DeSclafani was called up to the Major Leagues by the Miami Marlins on Tuesday and will start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.

He becomes the sixth player in head coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s tenure at Florida to reach professional baseball’s highest level, joining left-hander Kevin Chapman (2007-10, Houston Astros), outfielder Matt den Dekker (2007-10, New York Mets), left-hander Nick Maronde (2009-11, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), left-hander Steven Rodriguez (2010-12, Los Angeles Dodgers) and catcher Mike Zunino (2010-12, Seattle Mariners).

DeSclafani had recently been playing for the Jacksonville Suns of the Double-A Southern League, where he was 3-4 with a 4.19 earned run average in eight appearances (all starts). The righty had registered 38 strikeouts in 43 innings, while limiting opponents to a .278 average.

Chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft with the 199th selection, DeSclafani was 13-9 with a 5.36 ERA in 68 appearances, including 19 starts, at Florida. Over 149.1 innings, he totaled 115 strikeouts and collected three saves. The Freehold, N.J., native was part of back-to-back Gator SEC Championship teams in 2010 & 2011 that advanced to the NCAA College World Series in both seasons.

Besides DeSclafani, there are five other players with UF ties currently in the Big Leagues: infielder Mark Ellis (St. Louis Cardinals), right-hander Darren O’Day (Baltimore Orioles), outfielder Ryan Raburn (Cleveland Indians), catcher David Ross (Boston Red Sox) and Zunino (Mariners).

Does anyone have a link to watch it or even listen to it?

Vin Scully is the best. Him calling Disco's debut is a treat, regardless of how well it goes.

Disco gets the WIN in his major league debut!

6 innings pitched, 7 hits, 2 runs (both earned), one walk, and 7 strikeouts. He also went 1-4 at the plate with two RBIs. His first big-league hit was off the "bearded wonder" (or whatever you want to call him) former Giants World Series closer Brian Wilson.

Oh, and legendary announcer Vin Scully called the game.

    What a debut/night for Anthony.

Taylor Gushue has 4 homers in his first 5 pro games after hitting 6 in 62 college games.

    BBCOR bats are the worst.

Brian Johnson throws seven shutout innings with 13 strikeouts to improve to 9-2 with a 2.13 ERA at AA Portland.

Johnson would be leading the Eastern League in ERA, but is 2/3rds of an inning short of qualifying.

    Zunino off O'Day. Nice.

It's been a rough offensive season for Mike; 15 homers and a .404 slugging percentage aren't bad, but that .252 OBP and 103/11 K/BB ratio are pretty ghastly.

Of course, Safeco's a tough place to hit if you're a power righty.

Yeah, Mike's OBP is horrid, but they seem to think he's on the right track up there. He can pop homers, and he's got a lot on his plate handling a pretty good staff in a playoff chase in his first full season.

It's still TBD whether he'll live up to being a #3 overall pick, but even if he doesn't he can have a 15 year career as a good defensive catcher with power.

I hope Z will put in some extra work in the off season trying to refine his strike zone. He can be one of the top 3rd catchers with time. Of course, his current HR/ K//W ratio would put him square in the middle of the Braves lineup.

So many guys are swinging from their heels these days. Apparently, chicks still dig the long ball, but without steroids, you have to give up plate discipline. Reminds me of back yard whiffle ball home run derby. HR or K. Nothing else counts.
