On paper, it has to be. Maybe nobody will come get you for smoking a dirty joint, but are you going to draw up a contract to buy the weed and coke, then sign it? Na, the contract is for the pack of job’s.

Exactly. Some of these kids could be playing 15 games in any given season. Give these kids a slice of pie

Maybe the title could be changed to “Expected to play.”

I used the original article's title but it would make more sense to put "expected" in lieu of "forced" to play. Before the NIL all college players on teams were expected to play in bowl games. Players that are graduating see no need to play nor do they face any consequences for not playing in these non-playoff bowl games.

It's all about self preservation and it's not going to change unless these "other" bowl games are incentivized without a contract.

I have to keep the title the same because it would change the meaning of this whole thread.

Even if it's expected that college seniors, or those entering the draft, should play it's impossible to expect them to play without being compelled (like as in a free scholarship dependent on you playing in all games, including bowl games, or you pay for your last season of tuition) or some sort of NIL incentivized reason to play.

Maybe schools could help this along by paying for insurance that covers any kind of injury to these players with great financial compensation if said player gets a serious injury? That kind of insurance used to be a thing a few years ago.

This is what my crystal ball is telling me the future is but I bought it at the dollar store. So who knows.
