The blue hip thing doesn’t take into account if they are a true freshman or a fifth year senior who won a Heisman last year. Our highly rated talent is young for the most part.

True, but a stat that counts lost players is a backwards looking stat... useless really.

Here is what CBS thinks of our portal transfers class of 2024 so far... I would grade us a B+ becasue we filled the needs we needed to fill... with quality players.

Many of our transfers were underrated to begin with Slackman wasn't even rated and now he's 4* star transfer, and several others were underrated too, like Zandamela, who was ranked as a 4*star but might be as good as a 5* star recruit. But without a for sure 5* star transfer stud... I guess B+ is the best I can score our portal transfer class of 2024.

We might need that superstar receiver to get a higher grade.

I like our class, and they will surprise many people come game day against Miami in August.

College football transfer portal grades: Texas, FSU get 'A+' but LSU finishes with 'C+' after window closes

We’ve got the talent, but it’s unseasoned. Give these last two classes a couple more years and they will shine.

Everyone that we got from the portal has some good college football experience, and we returned several good players from last year's team too. But, as you said, there are lots of players that will be in their third year in Napier's system, so realized talent is more like fortune telling right now than anything. Will they shine in year 3? We shall see how many of those players mature... only when the season actually plays out.

I feel good about the mix of veteran players in Napier's system and the new talent added together with the infusion of the Portal Transfers. It's good mix of talented youth mixed in with proven experienced college football players.

There’s only a very small class that will be in their third year. The bulk of the talent that Napier has recruited will either be freshman or sophomore. There’s some portal guys there that have more talent, but I think of them as a supporting cast for a core group That has been raised in the system. Our high school talent is still very young. Napier’s first class was very small.

We still have enough balance for me to feel strong about our team make-up... overall team talent. I feel really good about the talent and the experience we have in this team.

But yeah, maybe one more year will do the trick? It's a never ending cycle until we win like 8 or more games a year. This team is capable if doing just that. Ideally I'd like more proven talented depth, but we are who we are... with one more window to fill maybe two or three unforeseen additions to our team. As I said before, I would feel much better if we sign at least one NFL ready receiver before the season starts.

Now lets not forget that we might have a diamond in the rough in this freshman class just waiting to show out. We just don't know. So just relax and let the young players make their presence known in the summer.

I believe we're good enough now to play and win 7 or 8 games with the schedule we have in 2024.

Right now I'm looking forward to our injured guys, from last year, getting back into playing shape. But with quality depth I am confident that we will have enough players to get over last year's debacle.

I totally agree, but it’s just weird to be satisfied with seven or eight wins.

I know how you feel, I don't want to be accused of being a sunshine pumper, so I will not tell you how I really see our season playing out. But I am cautiously optimistic that we for sure got 3 defensive coaching position upgrades to our team, and that we have much more talent and quality depth than we had last year. Those two things combined are huge, IMHO.

I don't like would of... could of.. should of games. But we were really close to winning 3 more games last year even with all the disruptions, from indifferent coaches to injured players, and lack of quality depth to fill in what we had.

If we had an average functional defense last year, that year plays out much better for the Gators. Now we have more depth at key positions and experienced players... with the added benefit of better coaching. That's a win, win situation.

Listen... keep this quiet and don't tell anyone what I'm about to say to you. Just between you and me... I see at least 8 wins this coming season.

Not sure anyone does that now, at least not formally. But, they don't account for losses for other reasons either (graduation, leaving early for NFL, medical retirement, behavioral dismissal, etc.). It's always been strictly an evaluation of the incoming vice the outgoing personnel.

Honestly IMO stars mean NOTHING if you sign the Number #1 at that position. I mean, if the #1 Rated IOL is some how rated a 4 star than it is what it is, you still got the best at the position.

With that being said, I believe if a kid is #1 at his position he should automatically be a 5*. In fact I could see the top 2-3 rated kids at each postion should get the 5 star status. Imo Comparing the 5*players against all positions is flawed. The sites usually only rate about 30 or so players the 5* status.

But how in the hell do you compare one of the top WR's or RB to one of the top left tackles or DE and determine who is the better player when a WR/RBs role, skill, responsibilities, etc are different than those of a LT or DE. Same goes for the other positions. I focus on position ranking over an overall ranking.

It is, sometimes, a good baseline to look at players. And the can't miss 5* star players are more likely to succeed than not in college football, but it's not the perfect indicator.

Right now we need quality depth that I think Napier has addressed with the transfer portal guys he brought in. And he's better than the average coach at picking out high school talent too.

Let's also hope that his new coaches are as good as we need them to be at developing players and teaching the basics like blocking and tackling. If they are as good as i think they are, then we will have a decent year. Hopefully much better than the prognosticators are predicting. We cannot end up with anther losing record... even if that schedule is brutally back-loaded and tough.

Ratings are flawed, skewed, corrupted. I never got caught up in it too much but signing 6 five stars would be fun.

Los is the key yet they are undervalued when it comes to stars. Everyone looks at the flashy stuff but the interior oline gets no credit for those running lanes or tgat clean pocket. It is what is is. You’re definitely on to something when you say top player at his position. We got the top qb, top edge, and top interior oline. That’s some good stuff right there no matter the stars.

If our coach Napier agrees with the ranking of a player, and he wants said ranked player, then so do I.

I remember when Gary Faust a high school coach was signed to coach notre dame. He signed 6 5 star quarterbacks his first year. They were going to beat everyone for ever. Don’t know if he broke .500 ever before getting fired.

    Agree.
Let’s ambush them like one of those Star Wars movies…
Make them think we’re still in disarray - but we are actually a “fully functional Battlestar”!
