The nukes dropped in Japan were necessary evils. The bomb was a new weapon, and had we not used them, someone else would have dropped one or two somewhere. Notice, after the dropping of two in combat, no other country has dropped a nuke in combat. And after WWII, the world did come together and create some rules of warfare where countries are supposed to limit civilian casualties. Does this happen if we don't drop the nukes? Dealing with Hamas is different. First, the tech Israel is using isn't new. Second, Hamas is a terrorist organization, and not a country. Hamas has used civilian shields for years. Using nukes or larger bombs that would result in significant civilian causalities is something to be avoided. Now specifically, in this case, Israel told civilians to move South to avoid the fighting. As a result, there are about 1 million Palestinians refugees in Rafah, which is the S. part of the territory. The argument is, if Israel now goes into Rafah with these high yield weapons, were they not herding the Palestinian population to an area where they can kill as many, civilians and Hamas, at one time? This is a no win scenario for Israel. Of course Hamas is hiding with the civilians in Rafah. Again, human shields are standard operating procedure. But what does Israel gain if it ends up killing tens of thousand more Palestinian civilians? And do we, as the US, want to be responsible for giving Israel the ability to do said killing?

Rafah was where Israel originally asked civilians to go. Now they ask them to go North where there's still fighting? After WWII, the world created rules of war.
