You obviously weren't around in the 1980's.

Mine got into FSU and University of Northern Haiti...I told her its a rough place in Haiti right now but in spite of the gang warfare and a few stray bullets it still beats Tallahassee by a mile and smells better too. Actually she is going for a meet and greet at UF next month....it will make me proud as a legacy when she enrolls. How quick the time goes by!

It is way easier to get accepted to UF out of state than in state. It's called out of state tuition. That is also why there is so many international students because they pay 100% out of state tuition, no scholarship... no financial aid. The next is low income students... government pays 100% of tuition. Schools prefer:

    - International
    - Low-income
    - Out of state
    - In state ( Low tuition)

    Bingo!!!

My third starts UF in the Fall. Three for three gators undergrad. All in state and not low income. Hopefully Zandamela will be in her class!

I think the out of state acceptance rate was 15% in 2021.

UF accepts a ton of low scoring kids in their Innovation Academy and PACE programs. Just have your kid apply to those programs. My daughter had all her friends that were well outside the top 10 percent in their class get in via this process. IA requires you attend classes in Spring and Summer (can attend on line in Fall semesters). These kids used to live in Beatty Towers as a group. PACE is online initially and can’t live on campus. Choice of majors is more limited. However, can go through sorority and fraternity rush with other kids. If you want your kid in UF, have them only apply for these programs. Regular admission application results in kids being denied. Also, applying pre-Med or competitive programs results in denial. Most applying undecided get in. Engineering is also a major with limited space to get in. The Engineering school will offer a program where you complete your first 15-30 hours at Santa Fe and if you have a 3.0 in coursework (Calc, Chem, ..) you are guaranteed admission to UF. You can also apply for an undergrad completely online and live in Gainesville off campus. Very easy admission. UF does not have to count any of these 4 programs in their regular Fall campus admission stats for ranking.

    Hmmm. Really?

There were 51,207 applications for admission into the Gator Class of 2025. Only 15,431 or 30% of that group were accepted. It is important to note that it is far more difficult to gain acceptance to this university if you are not a Florida resident. In-state students were accepted at a 59% clip. That same cycle, those from out-of-state only gained acceptance at a rate of 19%. Clearly, the UF acceptance rates are far lower for non-residents.

It’s all good. Neither of my kids chose UF.

Thanks for posting this. It would be interesting to compare these stats to previous years/decades.

This is where I pulled that info from

How to Get Into the University of Florida: Acceptance Rate & Strategies

I can’t attest to the validity of everything and I know a lot of schools are tight lipped about stats, at least private ones are.

my original post on all this was tongue n cheek. Didn’t mean for it to derail the thread.

Any kid needs some type of leverage to at least get a fair market deal. I’d think it would take lawyers on both sides to go back a forth to establish a fair deal. Maybe just needs a little time to work out the language.

83% enrolled are from top 10% is a really impressive stat. In-state annual tuition fees of $6400 are absurdly low these days.

That is an urban myth about UF that has been floating around forever. Look up the statistics regarding UF enrollment and you'll find that it is not true.

Many AA’s are a repeat basically of highschool if the kid took high level courses. Maybe universities aren’t interested in teaching the basics. If they are an institution of higher learning, maybe they can cut out the first two years of college, which is a bunch of bullshit anyway.

If he’s a gator, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. But no, I would not compromise our team over him.

Money and lawyers are involved with every single student there is or the student is a fool. It sucks, but it’s just the way it is now. I would tell my kid not to sign a damn thing until a lawyer looked at it.

I’m definitely against a bidding war type of thing and really wish things could be done by looking somebody in the eye and having a handshake on a deal and stick with what you promised.
