The 3.4 percent inflation rate is annualized not multiplied by 4.
    Good heavens.

It should also be noted that the 1.6% is after accounting for inflation. But the thread title is so factually untrue that it should be changed.

Reminds me of the guy who tried to claim that if prices were up 4 percent over the same month the previous year, that meant a 48 percent inflation

The 1.6 is abysmal. No way to sugar coat it. Slowdown will get worse.. Stagflation is a real concern. Not good news for re-election hopes.

Can we either get the thread title updated or delete this silliness?

Not really when you consider that much of the decrease from last quarter was due to an increase in imports (which knocked off about 1% of growth by itself).

    Stag Bidenflation.
    High inflation, declining growth.
Welcome to Jimmy Carter's 2nd term.

Do you realize that you switched to the second derivative because the first derivative wasn't working out for your argument?

Theatrics aside, the article is right to point out that there are some big bumps in the road. Partisans will claim that all is well or that we’re on Doomsday’s doorstep. I don’t think that either of those makes any sense. Inflation is still 70% over the target level and has stalled its improvement. That’s not a good sign. Capital investment will be reduced due to higher cost of capital and higher risks.

Make sure you’re not exposed to too much risk and buckle in. It’s going to be interesting over the remainder of the year.

I hope not. There were several iterations at trying to get inflation under control in the 70’s that eased up too soon. Those resulted in Volcker having to take extreme measures to kill it.
